Everything You Need to Know About: Newcastle’s Christmas Markets
The city’s iconic Christmas Markets return this festive season with fun, food and shopping aplenty
The return of Newcastle's Christmas Markets is a sure sign that the festive season is truly underway in the Toon.
This year they're bigger and better than ever before and are bringing a whole host of fantastic traders to make your Christmas shopping a little easier and a lot more fun. Read on for all the info you need to make the most of the markets this Christmas in Newcastle.
Where are the Christmas Markets located?
The market stalls are located at Grey’s Monument, Grey Street and Grainger Street and there’s a selection of hot food traders at Old Eldon Square too. For the first time, there'll also be stalls on Nelson Street - we weren't joking when we said the markets are bigger and better this year!
How long will the Christmas Markets be in place for?
The Christmas Markets officially open on Saturday 15th November and will be in place until Tuesday 23rd December. The grand opening is going to be quite the bash this year too with a brass band, a choir and traders giving out samples – so get yourself down!
What time are the Christmas Markets open?
They’ll be open between 10am and 8pm from Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 5pm on Sundays.
What kind of stalls are there?
There’s a fantastic variety of traders at the Christmas Markets this year selling everything from food and drink to gifts, art, jewellery, and fashion.
For fashionistas, there’s North East inspired t-shirt designs at The Big River stall, unique cardigans at Cardi Craze and cosy hats and scarves at The Christmas Accessories Cabin — plus gorgeous accessories and watches to buy at Botanica, Romanticise Jewellery and Urban Silver Jewellery to complete the look.
Gift shopping for the foodie in your life? Pick up delicious preserves from The Cherry Tree, raw British honey produced in Northumberland from The Honey Store and a range of cheese, chutneys and condiments from Grainger Market favourite Matthews Cheese. If they enjoy a tipple or two, then why throw in some craft beer from Firebrick Brewery — brewed just up the River Tyne in Blaydon — or something a little stronger from Riverside Spirits, Foxdenton Estate or O’Donnell Moonshine?
Lovers of art will want to check out Elemental Photography, Raw Print Shop and Brian Eyler Fine Art Photography and there are more unique gifts to buy at the likes of Netoon Creative, Komono Accessories and Adamo Creations.
After all that Christmas shopping, you’ll no doubt have worked up quite an appetite, but fear not as there are plenty of traders cooking up hoot food for visitors to enjoy on the go when hunger strikes. Stop by local favourites and market regulars like Redheads Mac ‘N’ Cheese, La Petite Crêperie, Acropolis and Geordie Bangers or try something tasty from a market newbie like Dipping Donuts or Slackjaw's Gourmet Burger Company.
For a full list of traders, their location and which dates they’ll be trading, visit the official Newcastle’s Christmas website.
What else is happening around the Christmas Markets?
So much! The much-loved Alpine pop-up bar Moosenwirt will return to its regular spot on Grey Street where visitors can cosy up with a drink or two after a shopping session at the markets, and The North Pole — the community of igloo pods around Grey’s Monument — are back too. Available to book for 1 hour and 145-minute slots from £30, the pods are perfect for festive gatherings with family and friends and boast gorgeous views of the markets and Christmas lights.
Joining the hot food traders over at Old Eldon Square is Newcastle’s Christmas Village, back for 2025 after a hugely successful debut last year. A one-stop shop for festive family fun in the Toon, the village will once again host popular events like Santa Stories alongside new additions like Mrs Claus’ Bakery. The gorgeous traditional carousel from 2024 is also returning and this year there’ll even be a Ferris wheel!
With so many fantastic traders — plus new additions like Nelson Street and a Ferris wheel — Newcastle’s Christmas Markets look set to be bigger and better than ever before this year. Whether you’re shopping for gifts, entertaining your little ones, hungry for some tasty food on the go or having a festive drink with pals, it’s the place to be this Christmas!
Newcastle’s Christmas Markets will be open from Saturday 15th November until Tuesday 23rd December. For more information, visit the official Newcastle's Christmas website.
