Savouring the Flavors of NE1’s Newcastle Restaurant Week with @ne1forbait's Top Picks

See where local foodie blogger NE1 For Bait? is heading this Restaurant Week

Last updated:

Hello foodies of Newcastle! 🍽️ The most awaited culinary extravaganza is back in Toon – NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week! 🎉

As one of your go-to food explorers, I've scoured the city to bring you the hottest picks for this gastronomic celebration. Trust me; your taste buds are about to embark on a flavour journey like never before.

Let's dive into my top restaurant choices for this year – Gaucho, URY, Salparo, and St Vincent. Get ready for a mouthwatering ride!

Gaucho Gaucho

Gaucho: A Meat Lover's Paradise 🥩

First stop, Gaucho – the haven for carnivores! Why Gaucho, you ask? Because their Argentine-inspired menu is a symphony of flavors, and I couldn't resist the temptation.

🍽️ My Picks:

  • Burrata - Tomato Salad Infused with Truffle, Aged Balsamic, Toasted Sourdough
  • 250g Churrasco Cuadril - Spiral Cut Rump Steak, Marinated in Garlic, and Olive Oil. Served with Chips or Roast Vegetables and Your Choice of Bearnaise or Chimmichurri Sauce
  • Salted Dulce De Leche Cheesecake - Toasted Marshmallow

Why it made the cut: The Argentine Steak at Gaucho is nothing short of a masterpiece. Grilled to perfection, each bite is a celebration of tenderness and flavour. Pair it with a glass of Malbec, and you're in for a sensory delight that's worth savouring.

URY URY

URY: Sri Lankan, Indian and Oriental cuisine, all under one roof

Next up, URY– an oriental gem that caught my attention with its commitment to authenticity and innovation.

🍽️ My Picks:

  • Small Platter - Lamb Seekh Kebab & Mutton Roll - Served with Yoghurt Mint Sauce (DF)
  • Main Sri Lankan Lamb Curry (GF) (DF)
  • Side - Mixed Dhal Tadka (V)
  • Bread & Rice - Garlic Pulao Rice (V) (GF)
  • Dessert Carrot Halva & Gulab Jamun (V)

Why it made the cut: With four expert chefs, each with their own specialties in Indian, Sri Lankan and Oriental cuisine, here you’ll get spicy sensations that you’ve never experienced before with each dish being prepared freshly every day. Trust me; this platter is Instagram-worthy and palate-pleasing!

Salparo Salparo

Salparo: A Mediterranean Oasis 🌿

For a taste of the Mediterranean, Salparo is the place to be. Combining Greek warmth with modern twists, their menu promises a delightful fusion of flavours.

🍽️ My Picks:

  • Chicken Souvlaki Skewers - Marinated Chicken Skewers in a Pita Bread Accompanied by Its Yogurt Sauce
  • Lamb Chops - Perfectly Marinated Grilled Lamb Chops Served with Pita and Feta Sauce
  • Loukoumades Feta - Deep Fried Dough Balls Stuffed with Feta Cheese, Served with Honey (V)

Why it made the cut: Salparo is the new kid on the block on Dean Street with big boots to fill (previous tenant was Route, one of my favourites). I’ve heard a lot of great things from people who have visited so far & the menu looks great. So I’m excited to experience the unique interior design, twisted modern dishes and excellent Greek wines.

St Vincent St Vincent

St Vincent: Global Influences, Local Excellence 🌍

Last but certainly not least, St Vincent, where global influences converge in a celebration of diversity and bold flavors. 🌶️

🍽️ My Picks:

  • StarterSea Bass Crudo - with Lime, Chilli and Avocado
  • Main - Braised Beef Cheek - in Barolo, Soft Polenta, Wild Mushrooms and Horseradish Salsa Verde
  • Dessert Burnt Basque Cheesecake

Why it made the cut: St Vincent's Braised Beef Cheek is a testament to their commitment to culinary excellence. The slow-cooked, succulent beef cheek melts in your mouth, while the accompanying flavours elevate this dish to a level of indulgence you won't soon forget. It's a global adventure on a plate!
