Everything You Need to Know About: Restaurant Week Live
We’ve got all the details you’ll need to know ahead of our very first Restaurant Week Live...

The real magic of Restaurant Week lies in the restaurants. Inside the kitchens cooking up a storm all week long, and the dining rooms where foodie folks feast. In fact, if you hadn’t heard of Restaurant Week before, you’d be forgiven for thinking that nothing extraordinary was happening in the city. So this year, we’ve come up with something a little different to help spread the word…
We’re introducing a brand-new event called Restaurant Week Live! "Restaurants?" we hear you say, "Live?!", we hear you say - yes to both!
To commemorate the fifteenth anniversary of the very first NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week, we’re bringing five beloved restaurants (and their talented chefs) to Grainger Street, to share their love of all things food with the city centre.
So if all that’s got your tastebuds tingling for some more info, then here’s everything you’ll need to know ahead of the very first Restaurant Week Live.
What is NE1’s Restaurant Week Live?
Restaurant Week Live is a brand-new event we’re hosting this summer to celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of the very first NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week. This time around, we’re welcoming five incredible chefs to cook one of their signature Restaurant Week menu dishes in front of a fervent foodie crowd (a.k.a., you!)
When is it happening?
It all kicks off on Thursday 31st July, with the very first demonstration taking place at 11am – but more on the specific restaurants and timeslots later!
Where is it happening?
It’ll be taking place on Grainger Street, handily just a stones throw from the Monument Metro and a few minutes walk from Central Station.
What’s going on during NE1’s Restaurant Week Live?
NE1’s Restaurant Week Live sees talented chefs from five beloved city centre restaurants cook a signature dish from their Restaurant Week menu!
Award-winning chef, culinary lecturer, and MasterChef finalist Anthony O’Shaughnessy will be hosting the event, introducing us foodie folk to each chef before they take their place at the kitchen counter.
At 11am, we’ll be welcoming award-winning pastry chef Meg Armstrong from the Michelin-starred 21 to start the day off on a sweet note with their chocolate and hazelnut choux bun. Then at 12pm, Chef Man Singh Rana from Dakwala will be spicing things up with a delicious recipe from their Restaurant Week menu before chef Adam from Argentinian steakhouse Gaucho dishes up beef and olive empanadas at 1pm. Following on, Sushi Me Rollin’ will be demonstrating their superb sushi skills with some salmon hosomaki at 2pm, before the legendary Bob Aurora from Sachins rounds out the day with a mouthwatering signature dish at 3pm.
Oh, and that’s not forgetting that this will be your only chance to pick up a limited-edition Restaurant Week scratch map, complete with all the 120 venues confirmed to take part this year. It’ll be a little piece of Restaurant Week history, from us, to you!
Do I need to book a ticket?
Nope! Restaurant Week Live requires no booking whatsoever, and even better, it’s free to enjoy!
So whether you’ve already got your tables booked for Restaurant Week and just fancy watching the pros at work, or need some inspiration ahead of the wonderful week itself, Restaurant Week Live is a must attend. We can’t wait to see you there!
And of course, don’t forget that NE1’s Restaurant Week takes place from 4-10th August 2025 - don't forget to get those tables booked!
