Family Creative Workshop @ Live Theatre
This February half term, Live Theatre isinviting families with big imaginations to enter the world of Melva Mapletree with a series of super fun creative workshops! Kicking of the venue’s Live Tales 10th Birthday celebrations, visitors of all ages can expect a playful, relaxed storytelling experience that’s perfect for sparking some creativity. Even better, it’s free!

Chinese Lunar New Year @ Stowell Street
Or why not celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year together on Sunday 22nd February? There’ll be awe-inspiring performances at the Chinese Arch on Stowell Street from 11:30am, as well as an incredible parade leading from Monument, through Blackett Street and Gallowgate at the same time. And that’s not forgetting the arts and craft tent, food and stall vendors that’ll be over at Bath Lane from 10:30am. Talk about a jam-packed day!

The SpongeBob Musical @ Tyne Theatre & Opera House
Meanwhile, Tyne Theatre & Opera House is transporting young theatre goers to Bikini Bottom this half term, with a production of The Spongebob Musical! You’ll join SpongeBob and all his pals as they come together to save their home from the volcano that threatens to destroy it. All aboard!

Zog @ Northern Stage
Families with younger kids will definitely want to take a look at Northern Stage this February, where Freckle Productions presents Zog – a heart-warming musical based on Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s beloved book. Following everyone’s favourite brave little dragon on his quest to win a golden star, it promises to be a magical time for everyone.

Art Club @ Laing Art Gallery
Let the kids imaginations run wild at the Laing Art Gallery this February with their Art Club. A space for young people to explore the galleries, talk about art, and create their own pieces with the help of a professional arts educator, it’s the ideal place for their creativity to blossom.

Pop-Up Hospital Family Fun Day @ Newcastle Cathedral
The Great North Children’s Hospital returns to Newcastle Cathedral for their annual pop-up hospital family fun day this half term! Little ones can explore a real ambulance, as well as meeting the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, and Northumbria Police Cadets too. And who knows? Maybe Fudge the Giraffe will even make an appearance too…

Viking Experience Day @ Great North Museum: Hancock
Budding historians have the chance to meet some real-life Vikings this month, with the Great North Museum: Hancock’s Viking Experience Day! These talented storytellers will keep little listeners (and their grown-ups!) entertained with tales from the Viking age. Plus, there’ll be fiendish riddles to untangle, and the chance for visitors to make their very own rune stone too.

Little Monks Cookery Club & Smart Cookies Cookery Club @ Blackfriars
Kids can cook up a storm at Blackfriars Cookery School this month, with both their Little Monks and Smart Cookies Cookery Clubs! The former is for all 7-10 year olds, and designed to give them a confidence boost in the kitchen, learning everything from how to enjoy fruit and veg to making their very own lunch. The latter helps 11-17 year olds build on the basics of cooking, with a choice of delicious dishes for them to make throughout the session.

Half Term Fun @ Life Science Centre
As ever, Life Science Centre has a whole host of events to keep little would-be scientists busy this half term. The Rocket Show will be unveiling the science behind rockets (Saturday 14th – Sunday 22nd February only), while the Centre’s live show Find the Fake, explores how your senses and brain can be fooled. And that’s not forgetting the Experiment Zone, Making Studios, and Play Zone to explore too!

Time Travel Club: Steam Ships @ Discovery Museum
Travel back in time this month at the Discovery Museum, with the Steam Ships edition of their Time Travel Club! Visitors will meet Gillian from The National Archives, and learn all about the most famous ship built on Tyneside – the Mauretania. Learn what made it so special, then have a go at making your very own pin-wheel turbine to take home!
