Everything You Need to Know About: NE1's Tiny Toon
All the key details you’ll need to know when Tiny Toon returns to Newcastle this July
Following two successful summers of NE1's Tiny Toon, we're happy ro report that the fun-sized city is coming back to Newcastle's Old Eldon Square for 2026.
And as ever, we’ve got all the details that you’ll need to know to make sure you and your family’s visit to Tiny Toon runs as smoothly as possible.
What is NE1’s Tiny Toon?
NE1’s Tiny Toon is probably exactly what you’re thinking – a shrunken version of the city we’re so proud to call home.
We work with different local business to create miniature versions of their venues, filling them with kid-friendly props and toys to keep the little ones busy. It’s all designed to spark their imaginations and creativity… so don’t be surprised if they start asking for another visit to Tiny Toon, instead of the iPad!
Where is NE1’s Tiny Toon?
NE1’s Tiny Toon takes place in Old Eldon Square. Nearby of course, you’ll also find Screen on the Green (with regular film screenings throughout the summer holiday) and our Stay & Play zone.
If you’re travelling into town via the Metro, it’s just a six minute walk from Monument Metro – but Eldon Square Bus Station is just a stone's throw away too.
When is it taking place?
Tiny Toon officially opens to the public on Monday 20th July and will be in place at Old Eldon Square throughout the summer until Monday 31st August.
It's open from 10am to 5pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, from 9:30am 'til 5pm on Tuesdays (opening half an hour earlier for Screen on the Green's Toddler Takeovers) and from 9am to 4:30pm on Sundays when it opens an hour earlier for quiet sessions until 10am for visitors who prefer a slower and more relaxed environment.
What should I expect to find at NE1’s Tiny Toon?
Like we say, the clue’s in the name when it comes to NE1’s Tiny Toon! There’ll be kid-friendly versions of some iconic Newcastle businesses, jam-packed with toys, props and costumes to help them play make believe.
This summer will see the return of three Tiny Toon favourites - the Tyne & Wear Metro train where kids can play train driver, Eldon Square where they can try on outfits or work behind the till, and the iconic Tyne Bridge.
There'll also be a number of exciting new additions for 2026 that little ones will love too. They can get behind the desk of a bank with a mini Newcastle Building Society, pretend to be a chef at a fun-sized version of Indian restaurant Dakwala, star in their own movie on a mini Tyneside Cinema stage and play baker at a pint-sized Pink Lane Bakery.
How much does it cost to attend NE1’s Tiny Toon?
Tiny Toon is completely free to attend, as is the Stay & Play Zone and Screen on the Green - perfect for some budget-friendly fun this summer!
Is there anything else I should know about NE1’s Tiny Toon?
We were blown away by the popularity of Tiny Toon over the past two years, so of course we can’t wait to welcome everyone back! Please note that we’ll be operating the area on a one family- in, one family-out policy – so there may be a slight wait before entry and make sure you get down early!
For those with children or family members who may appreciate a quieter environment (including children and families with sensory sensitivities), we offer a relaxed early opening on Sundays at 9am.
Please note that last admission into the Tiny Toon area is 30 minutes before closing and that children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Due to the outdoor nature of the play space, there may be occasions where Tiny Toon may unfortunately have to close unexpectedly due to weather conditions.
And there you have it; everything you need to know for when NE1’s Tiny Toon returns to the city centre this July. And with free films at Screen on the Green and a Stay & Play zone too, what better excuse to bring the whole family to Newcastle's Old Eldon Square this summer?
