Last updated:
Blackfriars

January 23rd is International Sticky Toffee Pudding Day and we’re here to help you find and feast upon the most delicious of desserts.

Though the origins of sticky toffee pudding are debated – some say it was invented in Cumbria, some say Canada, others say Aberdeenshire – there’s no doubt that it’s Britain’s best-loved dessert and us Geordies are lucky enough to have many delicious options right here in the heart of Newcastle.

Read on to find out where to try the best sticky toffee pudding in the Toon to enjoy on January 23rd and beyond.

Blackfriars, Friars Street

Soak up some history and some delicious sticky toffee pudding in the 13th century friary-turned-restaurant that is Blackfriars. Served with a sumptuous salted caramel sauce and refreshing banana ice cream (pictured above), it’s often hailed as the best sticky toffee pudding in all of Newcastle so it’s a must-try for lovers of the classic dessert. It’s gluten-free too!

Pleased To Meet You, High Bridge

Drizzled with salted caramel sauce, topped with caramelised biscuit and served with vanilla ice cream, Pleased To Meet You’s sticky toffee pudding is heaven on a plate. Book up for their afternoon tea and you can enjoy mini versions with their sticky toffee bites alongside an array of other sweet and savoury treats too.

Tomahawk Tomahawk

Tomahawk, Quayside

Tomahawk might be best known for its steaks, but don’t sleep on its deliciously indulgent sticky toffee pudding! Served with toffee sauce and vanilla-flavoured ice cream, it’s ideal paired with one of Tomahawk’s after dinner cocktails or liqueur coffees.

Heavenly Desserts, Newgate Street

You’re sure to be in heaven with a trip to Heavenly Desserts to try their sticky toffee pudding. They keep classic, serving with a rich toffee sauce and a choice of gelato or creamy custard and who could resist that?

Aveika, Sandhill

For a less traditional take on sticky toffee pudding, head to Aveika where the classic dessert gets a Japanese twist by throwing miso into the mix and serving with a soy miso toffee sauce teamed with vanilla ice cream. It’s also available as part of their Asian-inspired Sunday lunch menu.

The Green Room The Green Room

The Green Room, Market Street

The Green Room, Newcastle Theatre Royal's stylish new bar and restaurant, puts a local spin on their sticky toffee pudding which Geordies will be happy to hear is made with Newcastle Brown Ale and served with a refreshing scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.

Creams, Grainger Street

A mecca for sweet treats, Creams goes all out with its sticky toffee pudding which comes with both custard and salted caramel gelato and is topped with toffee sauce, Speculoos biscuit crumbs and a wafer. Wash down with one of their loaded milkshakes for the ultimate indulgence.

Victors, Quayside

Victors’ gorgeous floral interior makes for the perfect backdrop to enjoy its equally gorgeous sticky toffee pudding. Complemented by salted toffee sauce, Biscoff and salted caramel ice cream, it’s vegan and vegetarian-friendly so nobody has to miss out on the sticky toffee pudding fun.

Babucho Babucho

Babucho, Side

Quayside brasserie Babucho keeps it simple yet delicious, serving its sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream – the perfect finish to a meal of its mouthwatering Italian cuisine. It’s suitable for vegetarians and there’s a gluten-free option available too, while little ones can enjoy a smaller version with sticky toffee bites from Babucho’s kids’ menu.

Miller & Carter, Mosley Street

What better way to end a delicious steak dinner at Miller & Carter than with sticky toffee pudding for dessert? Simple yet classic, they serve theirs with a choice of vanilla custard or vanilla ice cream. Why not wash it down with one of their dessert wines for a special treat?

No doubt your taste buds are tempted by all the delicious sticky toffee pudding waiting for you in Newcastle, so go forth and feast and let us know which one is your favourite!~
