Light Up For Christmas: Newcastle Christmas Light Switch On

Last updated:

It might only be November, but it’s time to get festive as our city lights up after dark and Christmas cheer is spread throughout NE1.

Round up your pals on Tuesday at the base of Grey’s Monument for a dazzling display hosted by Steve and Karen (our friends at Metro Radio), the Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Cllr Linda Wright, Joe McElderry, Sam Lavery, Abi Garrido and many more special guests including the cast of this year’s Theatre Royal panto, Peter Pan.

Northumberland Street, Blackett Street, Percy Street, Grey Street and Grainger Street to name but a few, will be festooned with an estimated 20,000 festive lights illuminating the city as we kick off the Christmas celebrations. Look out for the extra special 4-metre tall Teddy Bear this year! Last year's switch on drew a whopping 8,000 people to the spot who all danced, sang and played games to get right into the festive spirit.

Entertainment from Metro Radio will start at 5.30pm with the big switch on set for 6.30pm. Don’t miss out on this fabulous free event and kickstart the festive celebrations in style!
