THROUGH THE YEARS...
Coffee hit the UK during the 16th century, shipped in from across the world. As you'd imagine, Newcastle and the Quayside was the first port- of-call for many - in prime position to take advantage of the influx! Because of this, the coffee business boomed, introducing a new social scene in the city! Fast-forward a fair few years and its an industry we're still very much buying into. With coffee connoisseurs popping up all over the city, we've picked out some local roasters for your radar...
Established by a tea purveyor named Leigh Smith, Pumphreys Coffee was first established in the Flesh Market in 1750 and has been a Toon icon ever since!
