Newcastle Cocktail Week: The Ultimate Cocktail Crawl Experience

Bigg Market & High Bridge

It should come as no surprise that an area as famous for its nightlife as the Bigg Market has plenty of bars taking part in Newcastle Cocktail Week.

We’re kicking off our Bigg Market cocktail crawl at WC Newcastle which boasts one of the city’s most unique settings – a subterranean space that was once a Victorian public toilet! Their signature Cocktail Week sip is The Cosmonaut – a gin-based concoction flavoured with fresh lemon and raspberry researve priced at £7.

Next, head over to Twenty Twenty, a Bigg Market hotspot so named for its 20 signature cocktails and legendary 20” pizzas. Try the Bahama Mama Bacardi Coconut Rum, cranberry, pineapple, coconut, strawberry, angostura bitters) for just £5.

Conveniently located just next door is Louie’s Liquor Store where you can enjoy their Sweet Sweet Tennessee (Jack Daniels Honey, Chambord, cranberry juice, salted caramel syrup, raspberries) for only a fiver, alongside a Pigalo’s taster tray for £15 and whole host of other cocktail deals exclusive for wristband holders.

Hop on over to the other side of the Bigg Market to Hooters who’ll be dishing out their Hot Honey Margarita (Cazcabel Honey Tequila, Funkin Margarita Mix, tabasco) for £7 a pop or to their neighbour Passing Clouds for their tasty Blue Skies Ahead (Blanco Tequila, orgeat, rose, lemon, Blue Curacao) priced at £6.

Take a little detour down Cloth Market and to Revolución de Cuba where their £6 Hot in Havana – a fruity number with Malibu Coconut Rum, Midori Melon Liqueur, Blue Curacao, pineapple juice, lemon cocktail mixer – will whisk you away to the warmer climes of Cuba.

Finish your Bigg Market cocktail crawl with a walk along High Bridge where you’ll find two more Cocktail Week venues – WC Gin Closet and YOLO Townhouse. The former, will be serving Orange You Tempted (gin, white cacao, orange liqueur, vanilla, cream, fresh orange juice) for £7, while the latter has a cocktail perfect for those with tropical tastes – the Pineapple Twist made with Jawbox Pineapple, Funkin Passion Fruit, pineapple juice, lemon juice and priced at just £5.

Mosley Street & Collingwood Street

Thanks to a string of bars all within easy walking (or stumbling!) distance from each other, you could certainly make a night of it on Mosley Street and Collingwood Street this Newcastle Cocktail Week!

Grab your amigos and say “hola” to Motel Mexicana’s Carajillo for just £6. Made with Cazcabel Coffee Tequila, Liquor43, gomme, espresso mix and ice, it sounds delicious – but all that caffeine might keep you up at night! And, if you’re feeling peckish, wristband holders can get three tacos and a side for just £15 too.

Head westwards and get ready for a criss-cross crawl of Collingwood Street, starting at Big Apple-inspired bar Manahatta. Alongside their signature Cherry Sour priced at £6 (Amaretto Disaronno, Montzi Sour Cherry, 42Below Vodka, cherry and vanilla syrup, cranberry juice, lemon juice, foamer), Cocktail Week wristband holders can also enjoy a trio of selected Manahatta cocktails for just £7.50 each!

A short walk away and you’ll find The Vampire Rabbit, a cocktail connoisseur’s heaven which’ll be mixing up their Autumn on the Tyne (rum, Xante, lime, pumpkin spice, pineapple) for £7 a pop this Cocktail Week.

Back across the street once more and we’re popping into Revolution to try their £6 Blue Crush cocktail. Crafted from Ciroc Pineapple, Volare Blue Curacao, lemonade, Funkin Lemon Cocktail Mixer, sugar syrup, lemon wedge, it’s a tangy-sounding sip you’re bound to love.

Neville Street, Pink Lane & Westgate Road

If you’re still raring to go after all those lovely cocktails, may we suggest a wander over to Neville Street and the surrounding areas for some more delicious drinks?

Stunning Central Station bar The Centurion is getting in on the Newcastle Cocktail Week action too with their fruity Lychee Blush (Smirnoff, Giffard Lychee, fresh lemon, raspberry syrup, lychee juice, coconut puree) – a steal at just £6.50.

Across the road is The Hudson, a classy joint whose signature tipple this Cocktail Week is the Peach Bees Knees made with Gordons Gin, honey syrup, Archers Peach and lemon juice – a wallet-friendly sip costing just £5.

Take a little detour onto Pink Lane and to The Town Wall where you can cosy up in its welcoming surrounds and sip on their Ruby Collins (Newcastle Watermelon Gin, fresh watermelon, lemon juice, sugar syrup, lemonade) for just £6.

Walk on over to Westgate Road where the adventure begins at Be At One with their Snapshot cocktail (Ciroc Red Berry Vodka, passion fruit liqueur, toasted coconut syrup, Emotivo Prosecco, garnished with a polaroid photo) priced at £6 and then on to The Geordie Star to try their Lemon Sherbet concoction (Gordon’s Lemon, JJ Vodka, lemon juice, gomme, apple juice, lemonade, lemon, lemon sherbet), also priced at £6.

Friars Street & Rutherford Street

Seeing as you’re close by, why not pop into Blackfriars too? The much-loved restaurant is shaking up The Friars Froth – a reference to the building’s history as a Dominican friary made with Moonshine Vanilla Vodka, pumpkin spiced syrup, fresh lemon juice, fresh apple juice and foaming bitters that’ll only set you back a fiver.

If you’ve a head for heights, then walk around the corner to 3SIXTY. Located on the top floor of the sky-scraping Hadrian’s Tower, you can sip on The 3SIXTY (Grey Goose, Passoa, passion fruit syrup, Rubicon Guava, lemon juice) for £7 while enjoying panoramic views of Newcastle and beyond – plus a two-course set menu priced at £25 per person.

Newcastle Quayside

Of course, it wouldn’t be a cocktail crawl in the Toon without a trip down to our wonderful Quayside and let us just say that Newcastle Cocktail Week-goers are in for a treat with tonnes of Quayside bars taking part this March!

Let’s kick off the Quayside cocktail fun with a trip to Colonel Porter’s on Dean Street to try their brilliantly named Tipsy Magpie signature sip made with Smirnoff Vodka, limoncello, Newcastle Brown Ale and Fevertree Ginger Ale and costing £7 a pop.

Heading further down Dean Street, you’ll come across two more fantastic bars taking part in Cocktail Week, and they’re practically next door to each other too! Head to rooftop bar ABOVE and sip on their £7 Popping Strawberry Fizz – a delightfully retro drink made with Smirnoff Vodka, strawberry puree, cranberry juice, lemon juice, sugar, and cocktail foamer, topped with a Fizz Wizz sweet - or stop by Livello for the tempting Cherry Ice (Smirnoff Vodka, cherry syrup, grenadine, lime juice, lemonade), also costing £7.

Taking a little detour up Side (if you dare take on that steep hill!), Moku are serving the Sweet Summer (Bacardi Spiced Rum, Teichenne Peach Liqueur, hibiscus, lychee, lime, foamer) for just £5. And let’s face it – you’ll probably need a drink after hiking that hill!

Over at The Vermont Hotel, The Redwood Bar is mixing up Autumn’s Kiss for £7. Made with Woodford Reserve Bourbon, Thatchers Cider, gingerbread syrup, angostura bitters and lemon juice, it’s certainly giving season vibes.

The Bridge Tavern, over on Akenside Hill, might be better known for its craft beer but they can still mix up a mean cocktail too. This Cocktail Week, try their Autumn Bloom – a seaonal sip made with Newcastle London Dry Gin, elderflower liqueur, lemon juice, Polot Blackberry Syrup – for just £7.

Next, trot on over to Dobson & Parnell to try their Harvest Hugo (elderflower liqueur, foraged plum cordial, NV Stelle D’Italia Prosecco Brut, soda, mint) for just a fiver – sounds delicious, right?

Over on to Sandhill now where a trio of bars are offering some seriously tempting tipples this Cocktail Week. For just £6, grab a glass of Redhouse’s Raspberry Collins – featuring Newcastle London Dry Gin, raspberry liqueur, lemon juice, raspberry syrup, soda, raspberry and lemon juice.

Just a few steps away, Sandhill Arms are dishing up a fruity and tangy Sarti Sour (Sarti Rosa, lemon juice, sugar syrup gomme, foaming bitters) for £7 while over the road at Aveika, their £6 Aveika Colada (Malibu, Captain Morgan, coco syrup, mango syrup, pineapple juice) is the order of the day.

Mosey on down to Malmaison next where you can sip on their Pornstar Martini (Passoa, passion fruit liqueur, passion fruit syrup, vanilla vodka, pineapple juice, prosecco, passion fruit) to your heart’s content for just £5, before heading over to Victors to try their Hot Honey Peach Margarita (Casamigos Blacno Tequila, Briottet Peach Liqueur, lime juice, peach puree, hot honey, green chilli syrup), also priced at £5.

The Gate, Newgate Street & Gallowgate

If you’re heading to The Gate – official partners of this edition of Newcastle Cocktail Week – then you’re definitely in luck with a handful of fabulous local venues taking part!

Fayre Play offers all the fun of a fairground for cocktail fans who won’t want to miss out on their exclusive Playing Around cocktail available for just £6. It’s a tasty concoction crafted from Beefeater Gin, Sarti Rosa, Monin Strawberry Syrup, lime juice and pineapple juice and topped with a Refresher Bar and lime wheel.

Pucker up for a night of amazing cocktails at KISS whose signature cocktail – the Toon Love Affair (cranberry juice, lime juice, mango puree, triple sec, Ciroc Mango) – is available for just £6 during Newcastle Cocktail Week. Wristband holders can also get two cocktails plus a sizzling platter for just £19 too!

Over at MOJO, sip on their Fast Car (Old J Spiced Rum, limoncello, passion fruit, apple juice) for £6 a pop or head to Lane7 to try their Blood Orange Mai Tai (Havana Club 3 Años, Havana Club 7 Años, blood orange syrup, orgeat syrup, orange juice, pineapple juice, lime juice) priced at £7.

Take a wander over to The WonderBar and cough up just a fiver for their Spicy Pineapple Margarita (El Jimador Infused Blanco Tequila, triple sec, lime juice, Monin Pineapple Syrup) and don’t forget to swing by The Gate’s new restaurant Tia’s Mexican to try the Tia’s Sour (Red Soul Whiskey, Tia’s blueberry syrup, lime, lemon, simple syrup, bitters), costing £6.25.

Lastly, on our whistlestop cocktail tour of The Gate, give Bally’s Casino a visit where you can sip on the Storm Cloud (Bacardi White Rum, Peach Schnapps, Blue Curacao, gomme syrupe, lemonade post mix, candyfloss or orange slice) for just a fiver too.

Venturing outside The Gate, there’s Turtle Bay on Newgate Street where a fiver will get you the totally tropical-sounding Koko Passion Punch (Koko Kanu Rum, passion fruit liqueur, coconut syrup, fresh lime juice, Mure Liqueur, guava juice, pineapple juice),

Bealim House, meanwhile, is mixing up a Rhubarb & Ginger Sour priced at £6 and featuring their very own Newcastle Rhubarb & Ginger Gin mixed with lemon juice, gingerbread syrup and foaming bitters for £6.

Monument Mall, Nelson Street & Grey’s Quarter

The cocktail crawl continues around Grey’s Monument with a trip to Banyan which has some fantastic concoctions available for £7.50 alongside their signature tipple the Peach Breeze (42Below Vodka, Paixao Peach, grapefruit sherbet syrup, cranberry juice, lemon juice, foamer) for just £6.

Over at The Botanist, grab their Pink Poppy Club (Bacardi Raspberry, poppy liqueur, lemon juice, strawberry syrup, soda, viola, lemon wheel) for just a fiver before heading to Friki Tiki on Nelson Street for their indulgent Hibiscus Mai Tai (Havana 3 Rum, Cointreau, lime juice, Alkimi Orgeat, homemade hibiscus and lemongrass syrup, butterfly pea tea infused with Beefeater Gin) priced at £7. Its sister venues No28 and The Rebel Yell are also getting in on the Cocktail Week action, with the former serving the £6 Lychee Blush (Beefeater Gin, rose liqueur, lychee juice, lemon juice, sugar syrup, hibiscus syrup) and the latter mixing up the £5 Evan’s Appletini (Evan Williams Apple Bourbon, apple juice, lime juice, sugar syrup)

Step up to the oche at Flight Club with their £5 Autumn Breeze cocktail (Ciroc, Ciroc Coconut, pineapple juice, granadine, lemon juice, passion fruit puree) and stop by The Alchemist to try their £7 Buzz Bomb (Bacardi Carta Blanca Rum, Bacardi Caribbean Spiced Rum, Mouse Kingdom Blue Curacao, pineapple, coconut, Disco Blue syrup, melon air). Wristband holders can also get 20% off food at The Alchemist too!

Take a trip to Thailand at Chaophraya with their Lychee & Passion Fruit Martini (gin, lime juice, passion fruit syrup, lychee juice) for £7 and get a free mango sticky rice when dining at the restaurant during Cocktail Week to enjoy some tasty Thai food with your drink.

Grainger Street, Grey Street, Pilgrim Street & Market Street

Stop by the Grainger Street branch of Slug & Lettuce where their Lychee Limoncello (Hendricks Another, De Capri Limoncello, lychee syrup, lime juice, tropical soda, blueberry boba) will only set you back £5.

Over to Grey Street now and to Grey Owl who’ll be wowing cocktail fans with their Spring in Kyoto (Mancino Sakura Vermouth, Beefeater Gin, fresh lemon, house-made orange cordial, orange bitters) for £6 and on to Barluga for a classic Aperol Spritz (Aperol, prosecco, soda water, orange slice) for £7.

Market Street hotspot and steakhouse favourite Gaucho have a delicious Mocha Espresso Martini (Mocha Espresso Martini, Belvedere Organic Vodka, Belvedere Dirty Brew, coffee chocolate liqueur, espresso batch, cocoa powder garnish) that wristband holders can sip on for £7. Meanwhile, their neighbours The Green Room are making their Newcastle Cocktail Week debut with the Belta Berry (Archers, spiced berry syrup, lemonade, cranberry juice), also priced at £7.

And finally, over on Pilgrim Street there’s a trio of great bars taking part in Cocktail Week too. NQ64 is dishing out the wonderfully named Sweet Fighter (Beefeater Blood Orange, Giffard Rhubarb, candied strawberry syrup, pineapple juice, fresh lemon, KA Strawberry Soda) for £6. Maybe enjoy a few of their retro games while you’re there too?

At Pilgrim, wristband holders can try the Wayfarer (Black Bee Rum, Disaronno, Monin Orgeat, lemon juice, cloudy apple, rhubarb bitters, foaming agent, saline) for £7 and at STACK Newcastle, Cazcabel Bar are mixing up the Tommy’s Margarita (Cazcabel Reposado, lime juice, agave syrup, triple sec) for £7 too.
