Celebrate South Asian Culture As The Newcastle Mela Comes To Town

Last updated:

Celebrate South Asian cultures this summer bank holiday weekend as the 25th Newcastle Mela takes to the city streets. Don't miss out on the vibrant party atmosphere!

To mark the Mela’s 25th anniversary, a carnival of colour, drumming and costumes will take to the Toon on Sunday 26th and Monday 27th August at Exhibition Park.

Headline acts include Miss Pooja, Rameet Sandhu, Rubayyat Jahan, as well as Akhram Rahi, Heera, B21 and Sama Blake, along with the Spice FM Roadshow.

The Newcastle Mela is a free, family-friendly, multi-cultural event and everyone is welcome to join the celebrations across the two days.

This year, visitors can expect traditional displays of music, poetry, dance and drumming workshops, circus activities and a climbing wall; as well as arts and crafts, henna tattoos and face painting. What's more? Mela moochers will be able to browse stalls selling food, clothing and unique jewellery.

The events runs from 12 noon until 8pm.
