Your Chance to Bid for Peter Rabbit and His Friends
A free public art trail featuring Peter Rabbit™ and his friends is set to draw to a glittering close when the sculptures which formed the trail go up for auction.
For nine weeks over the summer, individually painted sculptures of Peter Rabbit™ adorned streets and parks across Newcastle and North Tyneside.
And they are set to go under the hammer on Tuesday 13th October– along with a number of never-before-seen lots – to raise much needed funds for St Oswald’s Hospice.
Hosted by writer, comedian and artist Alfie Joey, alongside auctioneer Fred Wyrley-Birch from Anderson & Garland, the grand finale auction at Newcastle Civic Centre will feature 40 lots in search of their forever homes.
Each sculpture has been individually designed and painted by an artist and they are all unique pieces, not available to buy anywhere else.
The starting bid for each sculpture will be in the region of £2,000.
Tickets are available now at £20 (plus Eventbrite booking fee), which includes a glass of fizz on arrival. All profits from the auction will support the work of St Oswald's Hospice.
Those unable to attend the auction in person can now register to bid online and place bids ahead of the auction, or on the night.
Online bidding is now open and will run until the live auction on Tuesday 13th October 2026, where the online auction will run in sync with the “in the room” bidding.
A Farewell Weekend on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October at Newcastle Civic Centre will provide a final chance to see the 53 small and 43 full size sculptures before the auction.
Attendees can also enter a raffle for a chance to win their very own Peter Rabbit™ sculpture and a car and see six sculptures which didn’t appear on the trail but were created specifically for the auction.
There will be face painting, refreshments and a last chance to snap up trail merchandise and some of the artists responsible for decorating the sculptures will be on hand to answer questions about their work.
Those who followed the trail on the map and didn’t get round them all will be able to collect the final codes they need to complete the trail and unlock any outstanding offers or rewards to collect their finishers certificate and sticker.
Visitor slots run throughout the two days, with a quiet hour from 10am for those who would benefit from a quieter Farewell Weekend experience.
Tickets are now on sale at www.talesonthetyne.co.uk/auction. They cost £8 per adult, £3 per child and those aged three and under can visit for free. A family/group ticket can be bought for £15* and admits up 4 people including up to two adults.
All proceeds support the work of St Oswald’s Hospice.
