Young Traders Set to Sell Goods in the Grainger Market This Weekend
The Young Traders Market regional final is set to take place in the Grainger Market this Saturday (13th of June), bringing together some of the North East’s brightest young entrepreneurs for a day of trading, creativity and competition.
24 traders aged between 16 and 30 will set up in the market’s recently renovated arcade, showcasing and selling a wide range of products alongside the Grainger Market’s community of small businesses.
As part of the National Market Traders Federation’s Young Traders Market programme, the competition gives young entrepreneurs the opportunity to test their ideas in a real trading environment, connect with real customers and compete for a place in the national final.
Visitors to the market can browse an exciting mix of businesses, selling a range of candles, sustainable clothing, illustrations, and more, while supporting the next generation of independent traders.
For many young business owners, markets provide an accessible first step into business. The Young Traders Market programme has helped traders around to country to turn ideas into successful businesses, offering a platform to develop products, build confidence and grow a customer base.
The Grainger Market has long played a role in supporting independent businesses, being the first brick and motor store for many local businesses, including Meat:Stack, Acropolis and Tender Hooligan. Home to more than 80 traders, the Grade I listed building continues to provide opportunities for entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses in the heart of Newcastle.
Cllr Owen Burbidge, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Economy and Skills at Newcastle City Council said: “We’re pleased to welcome the young traders to the Grainger Market and to showcase the talent, creativity and ambition we have across our region.
“Events like this not only help young people develop valuable business skills but also highlight the important role markets play in supporting independent businesses and strengthening our local economy.
"I'd encourage people to come along, meet the traders and support these young entrepreneurs as they take their next steps in business."
Prudhoe Community Band will also be playing in the arcade from 10am to 2pm.
