Turtle Bay Newcastle raise over £3000 for the Sunshine Fund on their Opening Day!

Newcastle’s brand new Caribbean restaurant and bar, Turtle Bay, have raised £3200.60 for the city’s Sunshine Fund charity.
On Tuesday 9th February, Turtle Bay opened the doors of their very first restaurant in the North East… but this was no ordinary opening day.
Customers who dined throughout launch day were invited to pay only what they felt their meal was worth. Turtle Bay pledged to match the total amount left by customers and donate it all to the Sunshine Fund.
This meant that the better the staff did on their first day, the more money was raised for charity!
The restaurant are delighted to announce that the money left by diners, and matched by Turtle Bay, has totaled a whopping £3200.60.
The Sunshine Fund raises money to provide specialist equipment and improve the quality of life for children with disabilities and serious illnesses in the North East.
A donation of this size will make a real difference, from iPads to help with communication; to all terrain buggy’s to allow a family to enjoy day trips out.
Mark Hopkinson, General Manager at Turtle Bay Newcastle said:
“We were over the moon with the way that the opening day went here in Newcastle. Lots of happy diners, and therefore lots of money raised for a brilliant charity. I can’t think of a better way to get started. Here’s to sunny times ahead in Newcastle!”
Clare Savory, Head of Fundraising at The Sunshine Fund said: “A huge thank you to everyone that visited Turtle Bay on their opening day, we are overwhelmed with the amount raised. This amount will make a huge difference to the charity and the children we are able to support”
Turtle Bay’s Newcastle restaurant (their first in the North East) is now open. It seats 150 covers, over 4200 sq ft in the historic Co-operative Building on Newgate Street, right in the heart of the city. The new venture has created 50 jobs.
