Time for Tea and Dance at Discovery Museum
This October Discovery Museum is asking people to dust off their dancing shoes and join the ballroom revolution when it hosts a 1940s inspired tea dance in the magnificent Great Hall on Tuesday 21 October.
In partnership with Newcastle College, visitors will be served a sumptuous afternoon tea prepared by students from the Chefs’ Academy. Students from other departments of the College will also be involved including performing arts students who will be providing a dance interlude during afternoon tea as well as travel and tourism students who will be meeting and greeting visitors as they arrive at the Museum.
Expert dance tutors will be on hand to help any novices or those who require a refresh of the dance steps needed for the cha-cha, waltz and tango as music from the 1940s plays out in the magnificent art-deco Great Hall.
Discovery Museum Manager Carolyn Ball said,
“The Tea Dance is a new initiative for us here at Discovery Museum and it is great to be working in partnership with Newcastle College, providing opportunities for local students to gain experience working in this industry.
“We hope this is the beginning of a fruitful partnership with Newcastle College and look forward to working together on more projects in the future.”
Director of the Lifestyle Academy at Newcastle College, Rob Kleiser said,
“Developing the idea of a tea dance has been a great experience for our students and gives them the opportunity to plan, prepare and deliver an event in partnership with Discovery Museum.
“This has been a real collaboration, utilising the skills of our patisserie, travel and tourism, performing arts and hospitality students and using the fantastic backdrop of the Great Hall. We are extremely grateful to the Discovery Museum team for giving us the opportunity to support them in this new event and we hope this is the first of many.”
Tickets are now on sale at £9 per person and can be bought online www.discoverymuseum.org.uk/whats-on or at the Museum shop. The 1940s Tea Dance will take place on Tuesday 21 October in the Great Hall at Discovery Museum from 2-4pm.
