Tim Rice Celebrates His Career With ‘An Evening With Tim Rice & Friends’ At Sage Gateshead, To Raise Money For North East Charities

Tim Rice, the lyricist behind world famous musicals including The Lion King, Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar, Chess and Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, is appearing at Sage Gateshead on 8th October for “An Evening with Tim Rice & Friends” in support of two important North East charities.
Tim’s hit songs (and the odd flop) will be performed by well-known singers from London’s West End, accompanied by Royal Northern Sinfonia. The event will raise funds for Maggie’s Newcastle, which supports people and families throughout the North East affected by cancer www.maggiescentres.org and for Sage Gateshead www.sagegateshead.com whose charitable work with music-learning enriches lives across the region.
Tim will link the songs with stories about the composers with whom he has worked and how each song came to life.
Tim Rice first came to prominence for his work with Andrew Lloyd Webber. Other distinguished popular composers he has worked with over the years include Elton John (The Lion King, Aida), Alan Menken (Aladdin, King David, Beauty and the Beast), Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson (Chess) and most recently, the North East’s very own Stuart Brayson (From Here to Eternity).
Tim has won several awards along the way, including Oscars and Grammies. He has been inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame and has a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Proudly supported by Benfield Motor Group, ‘An Evening with Tim Rice & Friends’ will be a night to remember, with the opportunity not only to hear fabulous songs (including Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, I Know Him So Well, Any Dream Will Do, A Whole New World and Circle Of Life) but also to step into the life and mind of one of the world’s most respected songwriters.
Tickets priced at £30, £50 and £75 will be available from Sage Gateshead, from 10am Friday 6th March in person, online www.sagegateshead.com or by calling the ticket office on 0191 443 4661 (booking fees apply). All profits will be donated to the named charities.
