Founded in 2019, Festival of The Girl is a not-for-profit movement and ground-breaking interactive festival designed especially for girls aged 7–11, with families, siblings of any gender and grown-ups all welcome. The festival exists to challenge harmful gender stereotypes, spark big conversations early, and give girls the confidence to explore who they are and who they might become.
Delivered in partnership with global marine insurers, NorthStandard, Festival of The Girl Newcastle marks the organisation’s first-ever event outside London, bringing its much-loved festival experience to the North East. The decision to bring Festival of The Girl to Newcastle grew from a connection between the two organisations earlier this year, after Festival of The Girl co-founder Jen Toll attended NorthStandard’s International Women’s Day breakfast.
NorthStandard’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion employee resource group has provided generous funding support, reflecting its commitment to empowering young girls across the region.
Andrea Preston, Chief People Officer at NorthStandard, said: “We believe every girl deserves to see the limitless possibilities ahead of her and to grow up in an environment that nurtures her confidence and ambition. As an organisation rooted in the North East, we are proud to support Festival of The Girl Newcastle and help expose girls to new opportunities and role models close to home.”
