Students flock to intu Eldon Square!

The first ever spring student night at intu Eldon Square was a hit and got top marks from students and retailers!

Following the continued success of the shopping centre’s autumn student evenings, a spring event was planned following requests from students.

Shoppers were able to take advantage of unmissable discounts and offers, during four hours of frantic fun, packed with giveaways, entertainment, and live music.

The fun-filled night gave friends the opportunity to take the ultimate selfies, striking a pose in front of a magic photo mirror booth and customising the picture.  Students could also take advantage of free festival themed beauty make-overs by NYX and NARS, enjoy music from Spanish infused acoustic band Los Capitanes, and also check out their hand-eye coordination with the Batak Pro Game challenge.

Kim Bowles, 22, studying criminology and forensic science at Northumbria university, who was visiting the student night for the first time with her friends, said:

“We’ve never been before and are loving it! It’s our final year as students so we came to get dresses for our graduation ball and shoes.”

Victoria Dunn, 21, also studying at Northumbria, added:

“It’s a great atmosphere across the centre, we’re exhausted so we’re off to Bella Italia for some food and cocktails!”

Reiha Ali, from Gosforth, attended student night along with her sisters Anisha and Ali, and was the lucky winners of a Thomas Sabo bracelet on the night.

A delighted Reiha said:

“Love Student night! Most of my favourite stores don’t normally discount so these events make it just that bit more affordable for students.”

Tania Vesty, intu Eldon Square marketing manager added:

“We’re thrilled that our spring student night was such an overwhelming success; we’ve been working with students from the local area to make sure that the needs of the students are always considered, and that we deliver an evening that fulfils expectations. Our retailers have certainly come on board with amazing discounts and giveaways to make this a very special shopping experience.”

“It has been really rewarding to see how our student nights have grown in Newcastle, year on year. Last October over 10,000 students attended the exclusive shopping night in intu Eldon Square, with 70 retailers supporting the event with amazing discounts and special offers. Our first spring event has seen an excellent attendance figure of 5,254 students enjoying the night and retailers delighted with the outcome."

Dawn Wallace, manager of Topshop commented:

“The spring Student night has certainly exceeded our expectations. We saw an uplift in footfall from 4pm and it didn’t stop. The event has been well planned and well promoted and the atmosphere on the night was great.”

Laura Stephenson, manager of Thomas Sabo, said:

" The atmosphere in the centre had a huge buzz right from the very start! Students were in high spirits and were excited to see what discount were on offer. The majority of students were going all out and buying that extra special gift for themselves. It was a great opportunity to promote the brand through a high paced event and we received some great feedback along the way!"

Jamie Docherty, bar manager of Boost Juice, added:

“Student Night continues to be our most profitable day throughout the year, Last night our sales increased 101% on a normal day.  The vibe in the centre was electric!  We love student night!”

To be expected, intu Eldon Square’s new food quarter did brisk business throughout the evening. John Surtees, deputy general manager of Red’s True Barbecue said:

“Respect to the students of Newcastle for coming out and taking full advantage of our 50% off food offer. It was a great opportunity for us to give something back and introduce the brand to more people and we saw a fantastic uplift on the night.”
