Spectacular Sell-Out West End Show is Coming to Newcastle & Hexham

Following a string of sold-out performances, it has been announced that one of the UK’s most sought-after experiences, the Christmas By Candlelight festive concert series, is coming to the North East this year with multiple dates announced for the region.

Blending world-class West End vocals, sensational live bands, breathtaking venues, and framed by hundreds of flickering candles, Christmas By Candlelight has firmly established itself as a must-experience night out.

The high-energy, feel-good festive celebration is packed with singalongs, dancing and show-stopping performances and has been a huge hit year-on-year, selling out across the UK since 2023.

Organisers have today announced two venues in the region - Newcastle Cathedral and Hexham Abbey - will host 16 live performances in December.

Ben Purkiss, who starred in the West End production of Bat Out of Hell, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be returning to the North East this Christmas and bringing a little West End magic with us.

These shows are such a joy to perform, and the energy from the audience is unlike anything else. Year after year, the Christmas tour continues to sell out, and when you see the reaction from the crowd, it’s easy to understand why.

It’s become a festive tradition for so many people, ourselves included, and honestly, I think we enjoy it just as much as the audience does!

Simon Gordon, Director at Concerts By Candlelight said: “What started as a small idea has grown far beyond anything we ever imagined, and we never take that support for granted. We’re so grateful to everyone who returns each Christmas, brings family and friends along, and helps create such a special atmosphere at every show. Seeing these concerts become part of people’s celebrations is genuinely the most rewarding part of what we do.”

Singer Stevie Hutchinson said: “Growing up in the North East, Christmas always felt like such a special time of year, so getting the chance to bring the Christmas By Candlelight tour back home this December means a huge amount to me. There’s something really emotional about performing in the places that shaped you, surrounded by that warmth, spirit and sense of community I grew up with. These shows are packed with festive magic, powerhouse musicianship and so much joy, so it’s easy to see why they sell out so fast. Who’s ready for the West End to meet the North East?!

The 2026 programme will feature a spectacular line-up of productions, including:

·         Christmas By Candlelight

·         ABBA Christmas By Candlelight

·         Bublé Christmas By Candlelight

·         Motown Christmas By Candlelight

·         Rat Pack – A Swingin’ Christmas By Candlelight

With shows expected to sell out quickly, information and ticket details – including early access for the best seats in the house – can be found at https://candlelightchristmas.kickoffpages.com/. Early access release will be from 22 May, followed by general release on 29 May.
