Small Business Saturday

Small Business Saturday is on Saturday 5 December and we want to encourage everyone to shop local and use small independent services.
This is the third Small Business Saturday to be held in the UK and we’re fully backing the initiative here in Newcastle. This year our city will see the return of Small Business Saturday's Bus Tour, spreading the word far and wide about the importance of shopping small.
Newcastle City Council are running a special campaign ahead of Small Business Saturday to help and support our 7,000 local small businesses. Shoppers are urged to nominate their favourite independent retailer as part of the celebrations for Small Business Saturday, this 5 December. They want the people of Newcastle to name their local high street heroes, as part of a joint campaign with the Federation of Small Businesses, to raise awareness in the importance of shopping local.
Small Business Saturday is the first Saturday in December - the busiest shopping day on the year - when people are encouraged to shop local and use small independent traders. Last year saw 16.5m shoppers show their support nationally.
Shoppers were asked to nominate their favourite local high street heroes through social media and email by 8 November - and the response was amazing!
The nominated small businesses have now been shortlisted to a top seven, and the people of Newcastle now have a chance to vote for their favourite here.
Voting will close on Sunday 28 November, so make sure you get involved! You can follow the campaign through Facebook and Twitter pages, using the hashtag #SmallBizNcl
So please, show your support and get behind Small Business Saturday on 5 December and beyond by shopping local and using small businesses.
