Northern Lights Newcastle Returns with a Fresh 2025 Trail Map and All-New Highlights

Newcastle is set to sparkle once again this winter as Northern Lights Newcastle returns to Leazes Park for its third year from 27th November.

With the reveal of this year’s brand-new trail map and a first glimpse of several dazzling new installations, visitors can start to visualise the refreshed route—which this year is in reverse—and plan their festive journey through a fully reimagined series of illuminations at Leazes Park. Featuring never-before-seen displays, the light trail promises to delight both returning visitors and first-timers, making 2025 the most magical year yet!

Highlights of Northern Lights Newcastle include glowing tunnels, shimmering pathways, and cascading waves of colour, creating a magical and immersive experience for visitors of all ages. The map details an accessible world of 15 awe-inspiring illuminations all synchronised to original soundtracks within the iconic park.

Each illumination has been designed by the creative teams behind headline installations at Kew Gardens, Netflix premieres and Glastonbury festival.

Roxy Robinson, Creative Director of From The Fields, the company behind Northern Lights Newcastle, said: “Northern Lights Newcastle has grown into a much-loved festive tradition and we’re excited to unveil even more for 2025. With a refreshed route and all-new installations, every step of the trail offers surprises, moments of wonder and an immersive experience like no other. We can’t wait for families, friends and first-time visitors to explore Leazes Park in a whole new way and create unforgettable memories together.”

Highlights for this year include:

Spiropath:

Spanning an incredible 15 metres wide, this colossal light dome is made up of thousands of glowing LED spheres, each one precisely mapped to pulse, shimmer, and explode with colour in perfect sync with a high-energy soundtrack. As the beat drops, waves of light ripple across the entire structure, pulling you into a 360-degree spectacle of rhythm, colour, and sound.

This isn’t just a light show — it’s a fully immersive sensory experience that blurs the lines between art, architecture, and music.

Aurora Lilies

Wander through an array of white lilies that captivate by day and mesmerise by night; transforming after dark with colour-changing lights that bring them to life.

River of Light

A breathtaking illumination, created by the incredible Ithaca Studio, the team behind spectacular shows for Glastonbury. A sweeping river, bathed in colour, with over 8,000 glowing LED spheres that dance, pulse, and ripple in perfect harmony to a bespoke musical score. It’s not just a light display: it’s a living, breathing sea of sound and light.

Ho-Ho-Hues: Eleven towering pillars of light illuminate the grounds of Leazes Park, each patterned with intersecting colours designed to be admired from every angle. Inside, bright bulbs glide silently up and down, casting shifting shadows that constantly transform the space into a dynamic and ever-changing spectacle.

Lantern Tree Lane: A heartwarming and colourful new experience created in partnership with the RVI Hospital. Lanterns, each customised by children, are suspended above the pathway, forming a vibrant, glowing garden that celebrates creativity, imagination and community.

The Pearl Blossom: Floating gracefully on the surface of the lake, luminous blossoms emit soft hues of white, pink and blue. Each bloom glows with a central orb and is choreographed to music, moving gently with the motion of the water to create a serene and mesmerising spectacle.

Jungle Tree: Step into another world as The Jungle Tree is transformed with glowing vines of neon light, sparkling moss-inspired illuminations and an atmospheric rainforest-themed soundscape. A warm, immersive experience that transports visitors far beyond Leazes Park.

Butterfly Blizzard: A stunning array of neon butterflies that glow brilliantly against the night, pixel-mapped to ripple with colour and react to a bespoke music composition. This striking installation invites visitors to stop and capture a magical moment among the butterflies.

At the end of the trail, visitors will also be entertained with a variety of festive treats within the Christmas Village, including the warmth of mulled wine, hot chocolate, and toasted marshmallows, as well as vintage fairground rides.
