North East Design Talent Showcased at NE1's Fashion Futures

The North East’s top designers will be showcasing their collections at this year’s NE1’s Fashion Front Row catwalk event on Thursday 14 May.  The event is being held at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead, as part of NE1’s Fashion Futures, a two-day fashion event made up of talks, discussions, lectures and catwalk shows. This catwalk show has always been one of the highlights of NE1’s Newcastle Fashion Week. This year, under the new format of NE1’s Fashion Futures, the showcase for North East design talent is still one of the hottest ticket events in the city’s fashion calendar with the show already a sell out. Among the line up will be new talent from the Fashion Departments of Newcastle College and Cleveland College of Art and Design presenting capsule collections of students work shown alongside collections from 15 established North East designers. Iconic shoe brand and mainline sponsor of NE1’s Fashion Futures, Terry de Havilland will be demonstrating what makes their flamboyant 70s shoe designs so popular with the likes of celebrity fan base, Sienna Miller, Kate Moss, Cheryl Cole and more when the brand’s latest collection hits the catwalk. Among the other headline designers at this year’s event will be Emma Bell.  A seasoned veteran of London Fashion Week after showing there 3 times, Emma now has a residency in Korea but will be displaying her latest collection of edgy yet wearable designs including knitwear manufactured from plastic, hand dyed paper and up-cycled kimono fabric. Another North East designer with an international reputation and following is Dayne Henderson who will be showing at the event for the second year running.  Last year, the audience was blown away by Dayne’s dramatic latex designs and it came as no surprise that his work was chosen by Lady Gaga as costumes for her world tour.  Dayne will be unveiling his latest work to dramatic effect next week. Luxury lingerie design brand, Tallullah Love will again be showcased, an exquisite range of lingerie that has graced the pages of a range of fashion magazines and has been photographed by style guru, Tom Ford. Another North East designer whose work has received international acclaim and editorial coverage is milliner, The Libertarian.  Each year, her eye-catching creations make front-page news the world over after Royal Ascot, the best day of the year for a hat designer. Showing for the first time at this year’s Fashion Front Row event is Scott Henshall, fashion designer to the stars, who will close the show with his first collection in 10 years – a show-stopping range of 10 signature evening dresses that are certain to be a crowd pleaser. Commenting on NE1’s Fashion Front Row line up, Sandra Tang, Marketing and Events Manager at NE1 Ltd said: “NE1 is delighted to be staging another NE1’s Fashion Front Row this year, the event fits well with the aims of NE1’s Fashion Futures to shine the spotlight on Newcastle and the impact the city has on the international fashion scene, most notably the role our educational institutions have in shaping the world of fashion.” “Although many of our designers now live and work outside the region, they all hail from the area and are proud of their North East roots and are delighted to be involved in Newcastle’s biggest fashion event of the year. “It’s great to have Scott Henshall on board for our first NE1’s Fashion Futures event, we worked with him back in 2011 when we first launched NE1’s Newcastle Fashion Week when Scott designed the first commemorative T-shirt, so it is timely and fitting to have him back with us for this inaugural event.
