No28, Newcastle`s Finest Hidden Gem, Announces a New Tiki Bar on Its Ground Floor

No28 has been quietly getting on with it for 14 years now tucked away on the 1st floor of the Grainger market on Nelson Street.

Crowned Newcastle`s favourite bar following a recent Evening Chronicle poll, the bar has built quite a following and become renowned for its unique décor, excellent tapas, bottomless prosecco offers and late-night boutique clubbing.

Recently, the owners were granted a license for the ground floor underneath No28 and are now busy creating another `must visit` venue. It will be called Friki Tiki and as the name suggests will become Newcastle`s only Tiki bar.

A Tiki bar is a themed establishment that serves very elaborate drinks, especially rum-based mixed ones that are usually colourful, fruity, and lavishly garnished cocktails such as a Mai Tai, Pina Colada and Zombie. They are based on a romanticized conception of tropical cultures, think Polynesian / Haiwaan vibes with lots of bamboo, wood, tiki totem poles and a nod to nautical themes.

Owner Paul Skevington says

"I am very excited about the project, William Hill used to occupy the ground floor but it has been empty for over 3 years now and it`s time to bring it back into use. No28 has a very unique look and feel which has proved to be very popular. We are going to make sure the Tiki bar is just as unique, Our 8ft fibreglass shark is just one of the features that will surprise people when they walk in, that`s not to mention the smoke-breathing tiki totem men and we have been buying all sorts of unique bits and bobs for over 6 months in anticipation of opening."

As well as their fancy decor, the bar will offer some showstopping drinks, including their pineapple sharers which will be fully cored fresh pineapples overflowing with fruity rum cocktail goodness. They have also perfected a house rum punch and have a slush machine for a range of daiquiris, as well as a usual range of low `low and no` mocktails and similar drinks.

Customers will also get the chance to indulge delve into the tantalizing flavors of their special Jambalaya, a harmonious fusion of American Creole and Cajun influences. Bursting with French, African, and Spanish inspirations, this savory rice dish marries succulent meats, vibrant vegetables, and aromatic spices, all expertly blended with fluffy rice for a symphony of taste and texture reminiscent of the beloved Paella. And for those seeking an unforgettable culinary adventure, look no further than our soon-to-be legendary 'Friki Tiki' Burger, a culinary masterpiece that promises to be a feast for the senses.

The venue will open Thursday 15th and will have the same opening hours as No28 - Mon-thu 5pm-3am, Fri-sun midday - 3am.
