Newcastle's Christmas Spirit Will Keep Going Until New Year

Newcastle's Christmas Village has turned into the gift that goes on giving, with the good news that the fun will continue right into New Year.

The success of the festive events around Old Eldon Square and Gray’s Monument has seen it being named one of the top Christmas attractions in the UK.

And that – and the positive feedback received by visitors – has led organisers to extend the festivities into 2026.

Pop-up bar Moosenwirt will stay open on New Year’s Eve until past midnight – offering a memorable way to see in the new year.

The Christmas Village, part of the wider Christmas Market delivered by Newcastle City Council and NE1, has seen families turn out in their thousands to enjoy the many attractions, with organisers EVNT Inspirations deciding to keep the party going.

A new show based around the hit musical Wicked will take place on the Rocking Reindeer stage on 27 and 28 December, with a KPOP Kids’ Party planned on New Year’s Eve from 1pm to 5pm – giving families time to head to the Quayside for the free 6pm fireworks.

Most of the elements which have made the village will continue up until 1 January, including the vintage carousel and the Ferris wheel, which have been a huge draw this year.

Mike Hesketh, co-director at EVNT Inspirations, is delighted that the magic is able to continue.

“It’s been a fantastic run-up to Christmas so far and we’ve had such a positive response to everything,” he said.

“With that in mind we’ve made the decision to extend until New Year’s Day and added some new elements so even youngsters who have seen the existing shows have a reason to come back.

“We know people are very excited about the fact the fireworks are back at Newcastle Quayside this year and this will give families the perfect opportunity to make a real day out of it."
