NEWCASTLE: WHAT DO YOU STAND FOR?
TO celebrate the launch of its Newcastle store, Dr. Martens has launched its first ever '#STANDFORSOMETHINGNCL Search' – a regional hunt for an authentic North East DMs wearer to star in its Spring/Summer 2015 #STANDFORSOMETHING international ad campaign.
Throughout Dr. Martens history, the brand has been adopted and subverted by countless rebellious characters, subcultures and tribes. Dr. Martens wearers bring the shoes and boots to life, and this latest campaign recognises their story.
Amy Nelson, UK Retail Marketing Manager, said “Dr. Martens #STANDFORSOMETHING campaign celebrates individuality and the right to self-expression. The campaign represents authentic characters of different ages, backgrounds, occupations and personalities. They all have one thing in common – they wear Dr. Martens boots and shoes with pride and passion, an empowering mark of something worth standing for.”
“Newcastle’s coal to culture history and its local people have enjoyed a rebellious nature and an independent style over the decades, and we want to know more about them. We want to hear from North East people who stand for something unique, rebellious and interesting, to find a real local character to star in our international campaign.”
To enter the competition local characters of any age are being asked to tweet their photo and a statement of what they stand for using @DRMARTENS #STANDFORSOMETHINGNCL between 16 September and 14 October.
A shortlist of candidates will meet Dr. Marten’s international marketing team to get to know them better, from which one winner that epitomises #STANDFORSOMETHING will be selected to take part in the S/S 2015 campaign.
The campaign is also brought to life on Dr. Martens social media spaces, where consumers are encouraged to share their style and what they stand for to win, by uploading their own personal images of them wearing Docs. This creates a visual representation of the brand’s diverse fan base across the world, what they like to wear and how they express themselves.
Get snapped in their street style hunt with Sky Tyne & Wear and blogger Sandra Tang. They'll be in Newcastle on the search for the star of the ad campaign on the following dates and times. Make sure you get down to get spotted! Dr Martens optional but style is essential! Location: Monument & around or in Intu Eldon Square (if it's raining!).
