Newcastle Christmas Window Design Competition

NE1’s Newcastle Christmas Windows are returning for 2021!

This December, NE1 will again be using the creative talents of the region’s artists, students, designers and budding creatives to animate some of the windows of units in the city centre to spread extra Christmas cheer to the people of the city.

Last year, 27 windows at nine sites across the city were brought to life with Christmas-themed artwork designed by a talented pool of individuals. Showcasing everything from movie characters, to quotes, and Christmas unicorns, the windows transformed the premises in which they were installed. One of the headline commissions was from award-winning illustrator, Yvette Earl, who produced a custom-drawn festive illustration of Newcastle’s iconic landmarks. Her work was displayed over three windows of the former premises of Byron on Grey Street.

This year, NE1 is again reaching out to the city’s creative community encouraging them to submit ideas for Christmas window artwork.

NE1 is already working with local artists and schools to generate designs, but is keen to extend the invitation to creatives who have great ideas for Christmas windows. Winning designs for window artwork will be printed, installed and displayed in shopfronts across the city centre and will remain in place throughout December with a £250 prize for chosen designs.

Entries are invited by 12pm on 15 November 2021, sent to [email protected].
