New Year’s Eve Midnight Fireworks Announced!

NewcastleGateshead Initiative in partnership with NE1 are delighted to announce the return of the New Year’s Eve midnight fireworks on the Quayside.

The celebrations will welcome in 2019 with a bang as the fireworks light up the Tyne, the river's seven bridges and the Quayside's impressive architecture, which will all provide a dramatic backdrop for the pyrotechnics.

The event will be free and un-ticketed, with night owls invited to head down to the Quayside at the stroke of midnight to herald in the New Year in spectacular style.

Stephen Patterson, Director of Communications at NE1 Ltd, said:

“We are once again delighted to be working with NewcastleGateshead Initiative on the New Year’s Eve midnight fireworks on the Quayside. It is a dramatic location for a spectacular event, one which adds greatly to the drama and sense of occasion. It is an exciting time for the Quayside and its only right that we start the New Year with a bang.”

The FREE display will be delivered by outdoor arts company, Walk the Plank, and is made possible thanks to The Bridge Tavern, By The River Brew Co., Christmas Tyne, Gusto Newcastle, Malmaison Newcastle, North P&I, Pitcher and Piano Newcastle, Sage Gateshead, Slug and Lettuce Newcastle, BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and Ward Hadaway.

Vikki Leaney, Senior Festival and Events Manager at NewcastleGateshead, said:

“We are really pleased to be working in partnership with NE1 and Walk the Plank this year to bring the New Year’s Eve midnight fireworks to the Quayside this year. We know that for many, this is the highlight of our New Year’s Eve Winter Festival celebrations and the Quayside provides a very special setting to see in the New Year.”

In addition to the midnight celebrations, this year will see the return of the early evening firework display in Newcastle city centre. The free, family-friendly display will start at 6pm outside Newcastle Civic Centre with a spectacular 15-minute spectacle to music.
