Live Entertainment, It's Simply The Best - New Season Announced at Newcastle Theatre Royal

The stage is set for another unforgettable season at Newcastle Theatre Royal. From smash-hit musicals to spellbinding stories and thrilling performances for all ages, the season offers something for everyone – proving once again that live entertainment is simply the best.
He’s greedy, he’s grumptious, he’s horrid, and The Enormous Crocodile (Thu 21 – Sun 24 May 2026) is weaving his way to Newcastle in search of his lunch! The mischievous musical is based on Roald Dahl’s snappy children’s book and is filled with toe-tapping tunes. Only the other jungle creatures can foil this greedy brute’s plan, but to do that, they’re going to have to find their courage on the way.
Celebrating 50 years as the world’s foremost gender-skewing comic ballet company, Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, also affectionately known as The Trocks (Tue 26 & Wed 27 May 2026), return to Newcastle Theatre Royal with a sensational repertoire of hilarious yet breathtaking pieces that will challenge every dance norm with technical panache.
The perfect introduction to dance, English National Ballet presents My First Ballet: Cinderella (Sat 30 & Sun 31 May 2026). The classic fairytale is told anew, as Cinderella draws on the magic of the forest to reach the ball. With a narrator to help young audiences follow the story and a shortened version of Prokofiev’s score, this promises to be a fantastic family day out.
Rambert Dance Company celebrate their centenary with This Is Rambert (Tue 16 & Wed 17 Jun 2026). Their programme isn’t a retrospective, it’s a snapshot of what matters now and a glimpse into the future of a company that’s always been one step ahead – fierce, fearless, diverse and impossible to ignore.
A treat for little ones, packed full of music, adventure and surprises, Peppa Pig and her friends are back in their brand-new live stage production, Peppa Pig’s Big Family Show (Fri 19 & Sat 20 Jun 2026). There’s so much to do before the arrival of baby Evie, and the whole family is busy helping out with building and decorating work to be done.
Local playwright Ed Waugh, the writer behind Wor Bella, Carrying David and Hadaway Harry returns to the Grey Street venue with his production of The Cramlington Train Wreckers (Sun 12 Jul 2026). Having sold out venues across the North East in 2024, this inspiring story of community and working-class solidarity, set around the 1926 General Strike, is transferring to Newcastle’s biggest stage.
With unforgettable songs like Luck Be a Lady and Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat, Newcastle Musical Theatre Company present Guys and Dolls (Tue 21 – Sat 25 Jul 2026). This timeless tale of romance in the city that never sleeps is a high-stakes musical comedy, full of luck, love and laughter.
In Summer 2026, step up and enter the dazzling world of P.T. Barnum, where imagination and ambition know no bounds. West End star Matt Rawle will take centre stage when Barnum visits Newcastle (Tue 11 – Sat 15 Aug 2026) promising an extraordinary production with a cast of over 20 actor-musicians, acrobats and amazing circus acts. Audiences are certain to delight at every sight, wonder and miracle that the name Barnum stands for!
And finally, get in losers, we’re going to the theatre – Mean Girls plays Newcastle Theatre Royal (Mon 18 – Sat 30 Jan 2027) direct from the West End. Expect iconic characters, razor-sharp wit and killer songs when new-girl Cady devises a plan to end The Plastic’s reign and learns the hard way that you can’t cross a queen bee without getting stung.
