New General Manager takes helm at City Tavern

ONE of Newcastle’s leading bar restaurants has appointed a new general manager.

Tom Potter has taken the helm at City Tavern, Northumberland Road, after two years working on the management team at the multi award-winning pub.

Joining the team in 2016 after working for another bar/restaurant in the city centre, Tom was attracted to the pub after visiting it as a customer.

“I liked the bar immediately because of its laid-back style and delivery of service,” he said. “It is the type of place I enjoy drinking in and it’s proved to be just as much fun on the opposite side of the bar.”

Tom, who studied film and movie production, is also a renowned ghost writer for some of the UK’s leading film critics, but sees himself very much as a young entrepreneur with aspirations to own his own business one day.

“I’ve enjoyed a varied career so far, but I’m really enjoying life with City Tavern,” he added. “The business side of things is something I’m finding myself drawn to, and it’s fantastic to be associated with a brand as unique as this.

“I’m looking forward to the future, and I’m confident that we can build on what the team has created so far to grow the business further.”

David King, who owns the pub, is delighted to welcome Tom to his new role. “Everyone is thrilled that Tom has now become general manager, as he is the perfect person for the job.

“As a former customer, he is exactly what we needed to help grow City Tavern into an even bigger brand, and he has always understood the ethos behind what we do.

“Naturally, like everyone here, he’s a huge dog lover and has his own gorgeous pooches which have also been added to our Bar Hounds hall of fame on the website.

“I am confident that Tom’s appointment will help us develop into an even more popular place to eat and drink in Newcastle, and we are all very excited about the future.”
