NE1 is Recruiting an Events Coordinator

Newcastle NE1, the international award-winning Business Improvement District Company, has earned an unparalleled reputation for delivering an exciting and innovative range of projects and events, which continue to have a transformational impact on Newcastle city centre.

As our Events Coordinator, you’ll be leading year-round on a number of Newcastle’s most well-known city-centre initiatives, including; Screen on the Green, Summer in the City, The 24 Doors of Christmas, NE1’s Business Breakfasts and the NE1 CAN programme.

Reporting to the Head of Marketing and Events, responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating the successful delivery of NE1’s outdoor events and placemaking projects
  • Support with the successful delivery of NE1’s business-facing, networking, and NE1 CAN events
  • Working with contractors to ensure staffing levels are as required, staff are well trained, customer-focused and fully briefed on events and projects
  • Being responsible for the delivery of first-class customer service by the wider events team to ensure all events are welcoming, safe and inclusive
  • Taking a hands-on approach to interacting with attendees of NE1’s events
  • Ensuring that all event and project areas are clean, tidy, and well maintained, that any failings or issues are logged appropriately and that all equipment is stored safely and securely
  • Reporting any maintenance issues to the NE1 team and ensuring no broken/damaged equipment is used by customers
  • Communicating effectively with the NE1 team, events team and contractors
  • Responding to customer complaints in a timely and appropriate manner

Personal Specification 

We are looking for an enthusiastic, personable, self-starting, motivated and organised individual, who is able to see the potential to improve the offer of our projects and events. As such, they will need to be comfortable working and communicating with the full range of NE1’s staff and contractors and have an eye for detail to ensure all events are delivered to a standard which aligns with NE1’s brand position.

They will be able to prioritise their workload and complete work to tight deadlines. The ability to confidently use their own initiative and to work independently will be absolutely essential.

Essential characteristics:

  • Excellent communicator, with good interpersonal and social skills
  • Experience in running events of various sizes or experience within the events industry
  • Experience of managing, training and motivating staff
  • Willingness to work varied shifts occasionally, including some weekends during key periods and irregular evenings
  • Ability to prioritise workloads, staying focused in a fast-paced work environment
  • Enthusiastic and inspiring with a can-do attitude
  • Competent with IT, with experience using MS Office software, and managing and cleansing data

Additional information:

  • Start date – We are keen for the successful individual to start as soon as possible
  • Salary - £25,000 P/A
  • Job Type: Full-time permanent, 37.5 hours per week. This role will include some bank holiday and weekend working at key times during the year, particularly the school summer holidays. Working hours will depend on project details, and fluctuate at different times throughout the year so a flexible approach will be essential
  • The expectation for the role at key times of the year is to spend the majority of their time ‘on site’, interacting with event staff and key stakeholders
