North East Chef Prepares to Open New American Street Food Venture in Grainger Market
Experienced North East chef is set to bring an authentic taste of America to Newcastle city centre with the opening of a new venue in the iconic Grainger Market.
Owner Karl Mitchinson, known as Mitch, has spent recent years working in kitchens across the country, including experience for Michelin-starred chef Gordon Ramsey. Now, he is gearing up to launch his first solo venture, close to where he grew up in Blaydon.
Dylan’s Philly Cheesesteaks, located in Alley 2 of the Grainger Market, will specialise in authentic Philadelphia cheesesteaks and loaded fries, using recipes and techniques he’s picked up throughout his career.
Mitch said: "It’s really special to be opening somewhere so close to home. I love the North East, and after spending time working across the world in high end restaurants, it feels right to be back and launching my newest spot right in the heart of the city.
"Dylan’s is inspired by American street food culture and the recipes I’ve refined over the years. We’ll be making fresh fillings like shredded beef and spiced pork using high-quality local suppliers - British beef, fresh bread baked daily, and locally sourced vegetables.
“Our focus is on doing a handful of core dishes exceptionally well, keeping the menu simple, concise, and consistently delicious."
Mitch and fellow chef Joseph are currently completing work on the Alley 2 unit, with an official opening date to be announced shortly.
Lewis Smith, Senior Surveyor at Newcastle City Council, welcomed the news: "We’re delighted to welcome Dylan’s Philly to the Grainger Market. Having another independent business join us reinforces the values that have defined the market since 1835 - providing a space for local businesses to thrive.
"The market continues to attract a diverse mix of traders, making it an exciting destination for visitors. It’s brilliant to see passionate local talent choosing the market as their home and contributing to our community."
