My Delhi Serves 200 Hot Meals at The People’s Kitchen as Part of New Community Initiative
Newcastle restaurant group My Delhi has taken the first step in a new charitable initiative by preparing and serving 200 freshly cooked meals at local charity The People’s Kitchen.
The event, which took place on Wednesday 4 March, saw members of the My Delhi team join volunteers at the charity to cook and serve a large batch of curry for people in the city experiencing homelessness and hardship.
The day marked the first meal delivery as part of My Delhi’s new Hot Meals Initiative, an ongoing programme that will see the team return to The People’s Kitchen each month to help prepare meals for those in need.
The initiative is supported through My Delhi’s popular Bottomless Curry Club, with £1 from every menu sold contributing to the programme and matched by the restaurant. The funds help support regular hot meal days in Newcastle in partnership with The People’s Kitchen.
A portion of the funds raised will also be used annually to provide meals for people experiencing homelessness in Delhi, the city that inspired the restaurant.
Elahi Amin, co-founder of My Delhi, said: “This is our community, and we believe everyone should have access to a warm meal. Sometimes we take that for granted, but the reality is many people in our city are facing incredibly difficult circumstances.
We’re proud to support the amazing work The People’s Kitchen has been doing in Newcastle for more than 40 years, and it was a privilege for our team to spend time cooking alongside their volunteers.
Through this initiative we also wanted to connect Newcastle with Delhi, the city that inspired My Delhi, helping to provide meals for people in need in both places.”
The People’s Kitchen, which has been serving the Newcastle community since 1985, provides food, clothing and essential support to people experiencing homelessness and poverty.
The partnership forms part of My Delhi’s wider commitment to giving back to the communities it serves, allowing diners to directly support the initiative through the Bottomless Curry Club.
