Christmas Time Machine Heads to Leazes Park This Year, as New Theme for Northern Lights Newcastle Is Announced

After welcoming over 250,000 visitors over the past three years, Northern Lights will return to Leazes Park this winter with a brand-new festive tale, A Christmas Time Machine. This all-new Christmas experience is inspired by the moments, traditions and memories that make this time of the year magical across the generations, inviting new and loyal visitors alike to step into a new magical journey.

Running from Friday 20th November until Thursday 31st December, the after-dark trail will once again transform Leazes Park into one of Newcastle’s most anticipated festive destinations. This year’s theme, A Christmas Time Machine, invites visitors to step back into their festive memories on a nostalgic journey through Christmas past and present, brought to life by immersive storytelling, original soundscapes, and spectacular new illuminations.

Guests can expect a new journey through time featuring original installations, interactive areas, selfie spots and a marshmallow zone through a nostalgic trail that looks back at some of the nation’s most beloved Christmas presents and festive moments, such as Lava Lamps, Nutcrackers, Kaleidoscopes and the Gobo Walk, created by children who have extended stays at Great Noth Children’s Hospital. Alongside this, vintage fairground rides, cosy festive pit stops and an expanded Christmas Village will showcase artisan food and drink producers from across the region.

With demand expected to be high following the success of its previous seasons, visitors are encouraged to book early. Early Bird tickets, offering the best value prices of the year, will go on sale at 11 am on Thursday, 2nd July. Families can also take advantage of a limited Kids Go Free offer on selected off-peak dates, available while allocations last.

Emma St.Croix, Senior Marketing Manager at From The Fields, said: “The response to Northern Lights Newcastle last year was heartwarming. The warmth and enthusiasm from visitors made it incredibly special for our team, and we’re delighted to be returning to Leazes Park with a new concept around the idea of a The Christmas Time Machine.

“Since January, we’ve been reimagining every part of the experience. A Christmas Time Machine takes visitors on a journey through the festive moments that stay with us long after the decorations come down. Nodding to the traditions we return to year after year, the nostalgia of Christmases gone by, and the excitement of creating new memories together.

“We can’t wait to welcome visitors back and share this next chapter of Northern Lights with families, friends and loved ones from across the region.”

Northern Lights will also host dedicated inclusive evenings on Wednesday 2nd and Wednesday 9th December. Visitor numbers will be reduced by 75%, with lower audio levels throughout the trail to create a calmer environment that may be preferable for some neurodivergent visitors and those who benefit from a more relaxed experience.

The fully accessible, mile-long route will once again feature wheelchair-friendly paths, ramp access points and seating areas throughout, alongside Access time slots and queue jump wristbands for visitors with additional needs.
