- Shoppers are called upon to support the charity at their local M&S store
M&S stores in Newcastle are warming up to support an extra special coffee morning this September as it plans to raise a cup of coffee and a slice of cake in aid of the 25
th anniversary of Macmillan Cancer Support’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.
The stores including Newcastle's Northumerland Street's branch are joining forces with M&S stores nationwide to host a coffee morning on Friday 25th September in celebration of the flagship fundraising event, and are calling on their customers to join in too.
From 1 September M&S customers will also be able to enjoy a host of tasty treats on sale in M&S Foodhalls with 10 percent of each sale going to Macmillan. Products include a delicious Macmillan Victoria Sandwich, M&S’ famous Colin the Caterpillar Cake and a limited edition World’s Biggest Coffee Morning 25
th Anniversary Biscuit Tin. All M&S Cafés will also be donating 5p from every cup of coffee and slice of cake sold during September to Macmillan.
An array of gorgeous, limited edition home products, including a bone china mug, two tea towels and an apron will also be available in selected M&S homeware departments with 10 percent of each sale going to Macmillan.
This is the sixth year that M&S has supported World’s Biggest Coffee Morning and during this time the retailer has raised over £4 million for Macmillan. This year’s event comes as it is revealed that there are 2.5 million people living with cancer in the UK today, a number that is set to double by 2030. The money raised by M&S will help to support people affected by cancer by funding vital posts in local communities, right across the UK.
M&S Foodhalls and Cafés will also be selling two bespoke Coffee Morning badges designed by renowned British designer Sophie Conran, for a suggested donation of £2, each featuring a coffee morning recipe from Sophie herself.
Nikki McKidd, store manager, at M&S Newcastle said: “Macmillan is a cause that is close to many people’s hearts, including many of our employees, which is why we want to make this year’s event our most successful yet. It would also be fantastic to be able to raise more funds than ever before to help mark the 25
th birthday of the popular World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.
“Above all, the event provides a great excuse to gather together with friends, family, or work colleagues, enjoy a cuppa and a slice of cake, all in aid of a very worthy cause.”
Chloe Gallagher, Senior Partnership Manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “It is a sad fact that one in three of us will get cancer in our lifetime, and it is the toughest fight most of us will ever face. The support Macmillan receives from M&S is vital in enabling us to continue to support people affected by cancer, so that no one has to face cancer alone.
“Celebrating the 25
th birthday of coffee morning makes this year extra special for all involved and we hope that lots of people across the nation will join us to help make this year’s event the biggest and best ever.”
