Local brewery wins Gold at national beer finals!

Wylam Brewery in Heddon on the Wall has won Gold at the BeerX National Beer Competition 2015 organised by the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) The brewery’s Haxan Black Wit triumphed in the Specialty Beer in Keg Category at BeerX in Sheffield after being judged by a panel of more than 100 judges. Dave Stone says, “We are very proud to have been awarded Gold at Beer X. With over 150 beers in the finals it is a great accolade to be recognised as Champion Beer in the Speciality Beer in Keg Category. Beer X is a fantastic event and it gave Wylam the opportunity to showcase in a national window and it was a real buzz to win a trophy. ” He added, “ The North East Brewing scene goes from strength to strength so anything we can do to bring attention to the region is a real plus. “ Dave Stone described the 6.2% beer as ‘a black wheat beer with deep solid tawny tones.’ SIBA chairman Guy Sheppard said, “With close to 800 brewers now members of SIBA, competition for our awards is fierce and all our winners can be very proud of their achievement.
