Liverpool Heads to St James' Park - For Studies, Not Soccer...

A top team from Liverpool is preparing to head to St James’ Park – to boost their studies, not their soccer skills. Around 70 BA (Hons) Event Management students from Liverpool John Moores (correct) University are to visit the stadium – home to Newcastle United FC – on Monday 20 October to meet experts from Sodexo Prestige Venues & Events, which manages conferences and banqueting at the ground. St James’ Park is one of the North East’s most prestigious and popular conference venues and General Manager Frankie Angus will give a talk about its role in generating revenue, not only for the club but for the region in general. He will also give the visitors an insight into the challenges of providing large-scale hospitality for match day and non-match day visitors alike and take part in a question and answer session with the undergraduates, who are all in the second year of their course. Earlier this year Sodexo Prestige at NUFC added to its string of industry accolades by winning the Matchday Hospitality for large stadiums (over 40,000 seats) at the prestigious Stadium Events and Hospitality Awards 2014. The Awards are designed to recognise and reward the efforts and dedication of the catering, conference and events teams at every football and rugby stadium in the UK. Lecturer Paul Mullins, who will lead the group’s visit, said: “When you think of Newcastle you think of Newcastle United and St James’ Park really is an iconic venue. “The club and the city are inextricably linked and conferences are a big part of the stadium’s business – so it’s the ideal venue for our visit.” In return for Sodexo Prestige’s help and hospitality LJMU has pledged to make a donation to the Sodexo Foundation’s official charity, Stop Hunger, which aims to ensure children across the world have access to enough nutritious food to enable them to lead healthy and productive lives. “This visit has three major benefits, in that it gives us a welcome opportunity to showcase our superb conference facilities and not only help the hospitality industry’s rising stars, but, through the University’s generosity, support our charitable work.” said Frankie Angus. For further information about Sodexo Prestige and its conference and banqueting facilities at Newcastle United call 0191 201 8525 or e-mail [email protected].
