Lend your voice to a new app about life in Tyneside

People are invited to join experts from Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums to look at real archive newspapers from the early 1900s. People are invited to pick out what they think are the most interesting stories, and they will be included in a new app that is being developed with American artist Halsey Burgund. Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums are also looking for people lend their voices to feature in the app. Read out your favourite newspaper stories and your voice could be included in the new app when it’s completed, giving people an idea of what life was like for people in Tyneside during the first world war. Some of the newspaper clippings found so far include an article encouraging people to catch eels from the river Tyne ‘in the interests of food production’; discharged soldiers looking for work; and appeals for men to help complete urgent work in Tyneside shipyards. Workshops will take place at Newcastle City Library on the following dates: Friday 15 May, 2 – 5pm Tuesday 26 May, 9.30am – 12pm Thursday 28 May, 2pm – 4.30pm Friday 29 May, 2pm – 5pm If you’d like to come along please email [email protected].
