Last Chance to see LEGO® at Life

Life Science Centre is preparing to pack up their toys, as its LEGO® brick exhibitions Brick History and North East LEGO® Landmarks come to an end this weekend (14 May). But don't worry, there is still time to visit!

The exhibitions, which have been on display since January 2017, have been incredibly popular with visitors of all ages.

Linda Conlon, Chief Executive of the International Centre for Life, which is home to the Science Centre, said: “We know that LEGO is a beloved childhood toy, but we have been blown away by the popularity of these exhibitions – we even ended up extended the duration of the exhibitions to meet demand.”

“LEGO is a great tool for learning through play and I hope we’ve inspired many future engineers.”

North East LEGO® Landmarks – as the name suggests – features intricate models of some of the region’s most iconic architectural and engineering marvels, including The Angel of the North, St James’ Park, BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and the Tees Transporter Bridge.

Brick History shows more than 50 pivotal moments of human history, from the pre-historic era to modern day, including the extinction of the dinosaurs, the first ‘talkie’ film and the sinking of the Titanic.

Steve Mayes, local architectural photographer and creator of North East LEGO® Landmarks, said: “Exhibiting at Life has been a fantastic experience for me, even if the Angel of the North model did collapse a few times! It's my first LEGO exhibition and the feedback from visitors has been absolutely brilliant.”

The last day to catch the exhibitions is Sunday 14 May, when work gets underway for Life’s next exhibition, Dino Jaws, which opens to the public on Saturday 27 May.

Life Science Centre will remain open between the exhibitions, with plenty still to explore inside, including the Brain Zone, Science Theatre and the planetarium.
