Join the Maker Movement as Maker Faire UK marches back to Newcastle

Love science? Love invention? Crafting? DIY? Then join the world-wide Maker Movement and sign up for Maker Faire UK.

The world-famous 2-day event will return to Newcastle’s Life Science Centre on 25 & 26 April 2015 and everyone - from roboteers and engineers to crafters, hackers and garden shed inventors - is invited to take part.

Maker Faire is a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the world-wide Maker movement.  A place where people show what they are making and share what they are learning, helping a curious public understand how science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) shapes the world around them.

The event at Life will be the UK’s official Maker Faire and is set to attract Makers from across the world keen to present their interactive projects alongside performances, installations and workshops to an anticipated audience of over 10,000 visitors.

Announcing the ‘Call for Makers’, Linda Conlon, Chief Executive at Life, said: “We’re looking for amazing work of all kinds and from makers of all ages - anyone who is embracing the do-it-yourself spirit and wants to share and show their incredible inventions, hobbies, products, and DIY mentality with an appreciative audience. Previous years’ events have seen everything from car-crushing robots and fire-breathing mechanical horses to home-built computer games and crafts.  Anyone can get involved - whatever it is you make, come and share it with us at Maker Faire UK.”

Having originated in the US as a platform for tech enthusiasts, crafters, scientists and garage tinkerers to show examples of their work and interact with others about it, Maker Faires are now popular across the world.

To participate in Maker Faire UK, Makers need to submit their plans for a project at http://www.makerfaireuk.com/info-for-makers/call-for-makers/  Makers may submit their entry as a maker, performer, speaker, or sponsor.  Applications are open to individuals, groups, schools and other organisations.  Deadline for submissions is Midnight, Sunday 25 January 2015.

Tickets to attend Maker Faire UK 2015 will go on sale at the end of December, available to purchase from Life or at www.MakerFaireUK.com

Maker Faire UK is presented by Life with support from Northumbria University.
