JASON DONOVAN COMES TO TOON!

The international smash hit musical Priscilla Queen of the Desert will play the Newcastle Theatre Royal from Monday 3 - Saturday 15 February, with Jason Donovan at the helm! Based on the smash-hit movie, Priscilla Queen of the Desert The Musical is the heart-warming, uplifting adventure of three friends – Tick, Bernadette,  Felicia - who hop aboard a battered old bus searching for love and friendship and end up finding more than they could have ever dreamed of. Jason Donovan will reprise the role of Tick, the part he played when the show originally opened in the West End. Jason has had a hugely successful and varied career as both an actor and world-wide recording artist, selling over 13 million albums with four UK No.1 singles to date – one of which was the ever popular Especially for you with Kylie Minogue.  As well as Priscilla Queen of the Desert his other West End credits include the title role in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Caractacus Potts in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. His touring credits include Captain Von Trapp in The Sound of Music, Frank N Furter in The Rocky Horror Show, the title role in John Doyle’s production of Sweeney Todd and he can currently be seen as The Artilleryman in The War of the Worlds. His television credits include Scott Robinson in Neighbours; his character's most notable story was his romance and wedding to Charlene Mitchell played by Kylie Minogue, and Echo Beach. He was also a finalist in both ITV’s smash hit I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! and BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing. Making up the lead trio is Richard Grieve and Graham Weaver. Richard Grieve will play Bernadette having previously played the part of Tick in the West End production of the show following Jason Donovan’s departure.  Grieve is probably best known as Jonny Foster in Emmerdale. A native Australian, he played Sam Kratz in Neighbours and Dr Lachlan Frazer in Home and Away. His UK theatre credits include the national tour of Footloose - The Musical and Bells Are Ringing at the Unicorn Theatre.  Graham Weaver will play Felicia, which he played in the West End production of the show. His other theatre credits include Mary Sunshine in Chicago and Assassins. Priscilla Queen Of The Desert The Musical originally opened in Australia in 2006 where it ran for two years before opening in the West End for a run of a further two years. The show recently played a hugely successful season on Broadway.  Along the way, it has won numerous awards including the prestigious Olivier and Tony Awards for Best Costume Design, and four WhatsOnStage.com awards, including Best New Musical. Priscilla Queen of the Desert the Musical has been incredibly popular and is currently still touring all over the world. With a dazzling array of outrageous costumes and a hit parade of dancefloor favorites including ‘It’s Raining Men’, ‘Say a Little Prayer’, ‘Go West’, ‘Hot Stuff’ and ‘Always on My Mind’, this wildly fresh and funny new musical is a journey to the heart of fabulous that will have you dancing all the way home! http://www.priscillathemusical.com/ Priscilla Queen of the Desert appears at Newcastle Theatre Royal from Monday 3 – Saturday 15 February.
