It Don’t Mean a Thing if you Ain’t Got That...

SWING! And that is exactly what Royal Northern Sinfonia will do on Friday 6 March, as they bring some orchestral pizzazz to Golden Era Hollywood hits. From Frank Sinatra's High Society number You're Sensational to Judy Garland's Get Happy, we've got golden era Hollywood covered.
The orchestra are joined by world-class singers, Catherine Porter and Graham Bickley, who revive the magic brought to these classic hits by the stars of yesteryear. Having sung backing vocals for the likes of Queen, Tony Hadley and Chaka Khan, Catherine is no stranger to nailing some big hits. Bickley has played the likes of Guys and Dolls’ lead Nathan Detroit and has also appeared opposite Petula Clark in Sunset Boulevard. Graham Bickley comments:
“ Royal Northern Sinfonia is nothing if not versatile in their programming. On Friday 6th March, we will be asking them to tap their feet, click their fingers and swing like never before! With an orchestra larger than usual - virtually a symphony orchestra with the addition of a big band - conductor David Firman, vocalists Catherine Porter and myself, can't wait to celebrate the sound of orchestral swing from an unforgettable musical era, guaranteed to make the orchestra, and our audience truly...swing!”
Songs for a Swingin’ Orchestra celebrates the sound of orchestral swing from some of the 20th century’s most prolific and popular arrangers; Billy Byers, Saul Chaplin, Billy May, and perhaps the greatest of them all, Nelson Riddle. The night features hits Beginner’s Luck, Let’s Do It, Let’s Fall in Love, Let’s Face the Music and Dance, Lady is a Tramp and many more immortalised by the likes of Sinatra, Cole Porter, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong and Nat King Cole.
This concert features as part of Royal Northern Sinfonia’s Gala series, where audiences can enjoy popular hits and musicals performed with the richness only a full orchestra can provide. There’s no experience like it! This concert is presented with GRB Concerts.
