intu Eldon Square to Support North East Mental Health Charity in 2019

intu Eldon Square has chosen mental health charity Tyneside and Northumberland Mind as its Charity of the Year for 2019 - a charity which provides advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem.

This year’s fundraising activity officially kicked off on Saturday with an impressive performance from Blue Light Choir, a self-funded choir made up of emergency service employees and friends from across the North East to help ease those daily stresses by having a good sing.

As part of this year’s fundraising initiative, intu Eldon Square employees have already signed up to a 14-mile hike around Derwentwater in Keswick during Mental Health Awareness Week this May and hope to raise over £1,000.

Money raised by staff and shoppers across the year will help fund locally based wellbeing services throughout Tyneside and Northumberland which improve the lives of local people experiencing mental health problems.

Clare Cannon, community manager at intu Eldon Square, said: “intu are a people business guided by culture and values which is why the charity has been chosen by intu Eldon Square employees. Teams will be organising and taking part in a range of fundraising activities throughout the year, increasing mental health awareness along the way.

“Tyneside and Northumberland Mind are a truly fantastic local charity who improve the lives of hundreds of people in the local community who experience mental health issues on a daily basis. We’ve got some really fantastic activities planned which will involve both our staff and shoppers throughout the year.”

Alex Wilson, CEO at Tyneside and Northumberland Mind, said: "We are incredibly grateful to all the staff and customers at intu Eldon Square for supporting Tyneside and Northumberland Mind, the funds raised will enable us to provide more local mental health services for those struggling with mental health problems in our area.”

Tyneside and Northumberland Mind is an independent, local charity, affiliated to the national charity, Mind. With the support of local fundraisers and donations, Tyneside and Northumberland Mind provide a range of services, including counselling and wellbeing support throughout the region for those with mental health problems. The charity also provides training and raises awareness to help reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.
