intu Eldon Square adds a spark to the festive season

Shoppers at intu Eldon Square enjoyed an evening of free festive family entertainment complementing the switch on of Newcastle city centre’s Christmas lights.
The internationally acclaimed street theatre act, Spark, were back by popular demand for a second year, and wowed crowds with their spectacular light and drum act as they paraded throughout the shopping centre.
Customers were also entertained by a host of roaming performers, including a magical winter fairy and snowy stilt walkers, as well as comedy entertainers Christmas Crackers.
The cracker duo were searching for the best Christmas cracker jokes, and encouraging shoppers to share their favourite jokes on intu Eldon Square’s Facebook page for the chance to win a £50 intu Gift Card.
Families also enjoyed a fun ‘Reindeers Rock’ party where children danced with Brenda body-pump Blitzen and DJ Danny Dasher, made their own reindeer antlers, played cheeky reindeer games and learnt some special reindeer moves! Every new reindeer recruit received their own reindeer certificate to take home along with a little can of reindeer food – in order to be prepared for Santa’s arrival!
Yasmin Elliott, from Newcastle, enjoying the festivities with children Saskia (4) and Aminah Elliott (8) (pic attached) said:
“The kids begged me to stay in the centre to make reindeer antlers! We were in Apple when the sleigh caught their eye and they pleaded with me stay till 4pm for the event! They thoroughly enjoyed it!”
Maise Lyne, 24, from Newcastle, added:
“Spark certainly brought the centre to life; in fact the entertainment throughout the whole centre was fantastic.”
intu Eldon Square’s marketing manager, Tania Vesty, said:
“Last year’s family event in centre was a huge success; so many of our customers understandably wanted to see Spark in action again. It’s a very special night in the city, and as well as lots of great free festive family entertainment, we now have our exciting new dining quarter where visitors took the opportunity to finish off their evening in style, with a huge choice of new restaurants adding to our current dining offer. We’ve already welcomed George’s Great British Kitchen, Frankie & Benny’s, Ask Italian, Giraffe, TGI Fridays, Handmade Burger Co. and Pizzastorm. New restaurants are opening every week, so there’s even more opportunity for busy shoppers to relax and refuel during the busy Christmas period.”
