INNSiDE by Meliá Newcastle Joins Peter Rabbit: Tales on the Tyne, and Launches Free Summer Reading Sessions in Partnership with National Literacy Trust

INNSiDE by Meliá Newcastle, part of Meliá Hotels International, is proud to announce a special partnership with National Literacy Trust and its role as a corporate sponsor of Peter Rabbit: Tales on the Tyne, a free public art trail taking place across Newcastle and North Tyneside this summer in support of St Oswald's Hospice.

Created by St Oswald's Hospice in partnership with Wild in Art and The World of Peter Rabbit, the trail has been designed to bring families, communities and visitors together through art, creativity and storytelling while raising vital funds and awareness for the hospice. Following the event, the sculptures will be auctioned to help support St Oswald's Hospice's specialist care services for adults, children and families living with life-limiting conditions across the North East.

As one of the trail's corporate sponsors, INNSiDE Newcastle will have its own Peter Rabbit sculpture, Tynetastic Peter, designed by acclaimed North East landscape artist Arty Joe. Alongside its involvement in the trail, the hotel has partnered with the National Literacy Trust to host a series of free family reading sessions.

The family sessions will take place from 1.30pm–3pm on Thursday 30th July, with two separate sessions running from 1.30pm–2pm and 2.30pm–3pm on Thursday 20th August. Families can enjoy readings from the beloved Peter Rabbit stories, receive a complimentary book, and take part in a range of creative activities. The July session will also feature a special artist-led painting workshop. Places can be booked via Eventbrite HERE

The partnership supports the National Literacy Trust’s work as part of the National Year of Reading, a UK-wide campaign encouraging more people to make reading a regular part of their lives. Across the North East, the charity works with communities, schools, businesses, and local organisations to help children and families develop the literacy skills they need to thrive.

Peter Rabbit: Tales on the Tyne is expected to attract families, visitors and staycationers from across the UK. Situated on the Quayside, INNSiDE Newcastle offers a central base for exploring the trail on foot, alongside nearby museums, riverside walks and family-friendly attractions.

Known for his vibrant depictions of Newcastle, the Northumberland coastline and the wider North East landscape, Arty Joe has created Tynetastic Peter as a celebration of local landmarks and scenery, reflecting both the region’s architectural heritage and natural beauty.

Speaking about the design, Arty Joe said: "The artwork is a sequence of illustrations and landmarks inspired by my own frequent trips up and down the Tyne and along the coast on foot and by bike. I liked the idea of capturing a journey. Depicting both night and day seemed like a good way to conjure the sense of time passing and I felt it offered more of a storytelling quality to the piece. I hope that seeing my artwork, people will feel a sense of pride in all that we have here in Tyneside and connect it with their own stories and experiences."

Visitors who discover Tynetastic Peter as part of the Peter Rabbit: Tales on the Tyne trail will have the chance to unlock a range of prizes and rewards, including a grand prize of a three-night stay for two at INNSiDE Ibiza in an ocean-view room with breakfast plus an artwork from Arty Joe. Families visiting the sculpture can also enjoy sweet treats for children back at the hotel, alongside discounted  food and drink at Gino D'Acampo Newcastle using the exclusive code.

The 100th visitor to collect the sculpture will win a one-night stay at INNSiDE Newcastle.

Guests can also enjoy up to 25% off stays at INNSiDE by Meliá between 12 June and 31 August 2026 through the Meliá Rewards programme using code CITYLOVERS10. Bookings must be made by 13 July 2026.

Throughout the summer, children under 11 can also dine free at the hotel’s Gino D’Acampo restaurant.
