INNSiDE by Meliá Celebrates Four Years in Newcastle, with New Artwork Design from Lines Behind

INNSiDE by Meliá Newcastle, part of Meliá Hotels International, has partnered with local creative talent James Dixon of Lines Behind to unveil a new piece of artwork in celebration of the balanced lifestyle hotel’s fourth birthday. The new artwork pays tribute to everything that makes INNSiDE Newcastle unique, highlighting the hotel’s character and celebrating its milestones over the past four years in the city.

The artwork showcases INNSiDE Newcastle’s unique location on the banks of River Tyne. It features local phrases and expressions like “Alreet?” and “Whey-I-Man,” placing the iconic Tyne Bridge at the centre of the image, alongside INNSiDE by Meliá’s core philosophy: “Stay Curious.” It also highlights the hotel’s dog-friendly approach and partnership with St Oswald’s Hospice, while showcasing signature elements that define the guest experience - such as the winding staircase, room slippers, branded mugs, and the playful “Busy Exploring” door signs. From accolades at the North East Tourism Awards to being named Global Winners of the ‘Voice of the Customer’, the artwork captures the true essence of INNSiDE Newcastle.

When INNSiDE Newcastle opened its doors on the Quayside in 2021, mural-style illustrator James Dixon created a bespoke, Newcastle-inspired masterpiece. This original artwork was featured throughout the hotel - in public spaces, and on purchasable merchandise. Now, the new design will feature on new team uniforms and be showcased in one of The Townhouse Suites – the hotel’s highest bedroom category - rebranded as ‘The Toonhoose’.

James Dixon, of Lines Behind, commented: “Since the hotel’s launch, INNSiDE Newcastle has been a huge support to me and has played a massive part in Lines Behind’s continuous growth. I’m so grateful to the team for allowing me to refresh and reimagine parts of the hotel - it truly means the world. I’m excited to share this new artwork with the city and to continue being part of INNSiDE’s journey.”

Katie Cunningham, General Manager of INNSiDE by Meliá Newcastle, commented: “At INNSiDE, we’re passionate about showcasing everything that makes Newcastle special - from supporting local businesses to engaging with the city’s vibrant creative scene. We’re thrilled to unveil this new piece from Lines Behind, which perfectly captures the spirit of both INNSiDE and the city we’re proud to call home.”

INNSiDE Newcastle officially opened on May 17, 2021, offering a slice of continental life in the heart of the city. Since its opening, the 161-bedroom hotel has welcomed many A-list celebrities and visiting sports teams. Located on the historical Quayside, offering breathtaking views across the River Tyne, the Open Living Lounge is the beating heart of the hotel and leads into Gino D’Acampo Quayside, the hotel’s restaurant, bar and contemporary outdoor terrace overlooking the iconic river.
