I SAY! HIT WEST END SPY THRILLER 39 STEPS TO MAKE AWFULLY GOOD VISIT TO NEWCASTLE
Celebrated West End show The 39 Steps, the ultimate comedy spy thriller featuring a cast of four playing 139 characters in 100 minutes, is set to touch down at Newcastle Theatre Royal next month. Absolutely spiffing! Brace yourselves for a whirlwind of action….Tue 7 – Sat 11 May
The 39 Steps, currently celebrating its sixth year at the West End’s Criterion Theatre, is based on John Buchan’s famous 1914 spy thriller The Thirty Nine Steps and the acclaimed 1935 film version by Alfred Hitchcock. Adapted for the stage by Patrick Barlow (who set up National Theatre of Brent, and appeared in Shakespeare In Love, Notting Hill and Bridget Jones’s Diary), it has won many awards including an Olivier and Whatonstage.com for Best Comedy, two Tony Awards for Best Lighting and Best Sound Design, two Drama Desk Awards for Unique Theatrical Experience and Outstanding Lighting and the Molière award for Best Comedy.awards.
Blissfully funny and quintessentially British, the story follows handsome moustachioed 7.9/10hero Richard Hannay (a terribly dashing young man in tweed), who finds himself unexpectedly embroiled in a spy saga and murder. Determined to save King and country, he embarks on a trip from London to Scotland all with a view to saving his name and preventing top-secret information from leaving the country! Spiffing! Featuring four energetic and fearless actors playing no less than 139 roles in 100 minutes, it comes complete with stiff upper lip, British gung-ho and devastatingly beautiful women (oh, and a bit of swooning!)
