Hold onto your perms and grab your legwarmers Mixtape does The 80s!

Monday 25 November, 8pm Mixtape: Shuffle The 80s Join the Mixtapers for another night of theatrical mayhem when they’ll be donning their legwarmers and going back to the 80s! After a sell out show in October, Mixtape is back presenting bite sized theatre inspired by music at The Dog and Parrot on Monday 25 November at 8pm. Part theatre show and part pop quiz Mixtape is the perfect night out for theatre, music and pub quiz fans. Conceived by theatre director Melanie Rashbrooke, Mixtape is a monthly night of theatrical madness written by the most exciting and emerging writers from the region. The Mixtape rules are simple. The play must be shorter than the length of the track that inspired it. It can be shorter but it must not be longer. Plus, only the lyrics from the song can be used to form the script. They can be reordered in any way the writer chooses but the words used in the script must be from the song’s lyrics. As part of the show audience members have the chance of winning the highly coveted golden Mixtape if they manage to correctly name the song and band/artists that inspired each short play. Each Mixtape is themed and in November the Mixtapers will be shuffling 80s tracks.  From Whitney Houston to Wham to Duran Duran to Dead or Alive - it’s all up for grabs. For Mixtape: Shuffle The 80s writers have picked their favourite 80s songs and created short bite sized plays which the Mixtapers will be shuffling up live on the night. The Mixtapers will have no control of the order of the plays; their fate is in the hands of the iPod Shuffle (the audience)! For November the Mixtapers are working with some of the region’s most exciting new and established writers including Beth Allison, James Barton, Samantha Bell, Nina Berry, Adam Donaldson, Paul Dunn, Ben Dickenson, Hannah Morpeth, Stu Nimmo, Alistair Pritchard and Melanie Rashbrooke. The November performers include: James Barton, Samantha Bell, Steven Blackshaw, Adam Donaldson, Amy Foley, Zoe Hakin and Stan Hodgson. Reviews of their October show “The audience was caught up in an exhilarating whirlwind of quick-fire sets, which were beautifully paced throughout. Mixtape works really well.  I had a brilliantly entertaining night and my companion left with the coveted Golden Mixtape, so all in all, a huge thumbs-up” Alliterati Magazine (read full review) “Theatre director Melanie Rashbrooke is onto a winner with this concept and the inclusion of both young writers and performers is one which pleases me; giving young people a platform to show off their talents results in a funny, clever, well thought out evening of new theatre.” Cuckoo Review (read full review) Support some of the region’s finest new writing and acting talent as the Mixtapers take to the stage again in November. Tickets are £5, £4 concession, £4 Mixtape pinbadge wearers. Tickets can be booked online at www.mixtapetheatre.co.uk or on the door. There will be another chance to see Mixtape when they return to The Dog & Parrot on Monday 16 December when they’ll present a special Christmas edition of the show, providing audiences with the perfect antidote to the Christmas Panto.  Plus, they’ll be making a special guest appearance at Trashed Organ’s Christmas Noir show, at Live Theatre, on Wednesday 18 December. Mixtape is presented as part of Alphabetti Spaghetti’s Brolly Season. Follow our updates on Twitter @ukmixtape or on Facebook www.facebook.com/mixtapetheatre
