Hancock Gallery Reveals Shaun the Sheep Sculpture And Launches a Series of Summer Art Activities for Children

Hancock Gallery's Shaun on the Tyne summer activities

Newcastle’s Hancock Gallery this week opened an experience room in conjunction with its sponsorship of Shaun on the Tyne, which includes a series of family-friendly art activities to run this Summer.

Hancock Gallery and Shaun on the Tyne and have something very important in common…a love of Art! Once visitors have unlocked the ‘Art is Mischief’ sculpture that is located outside of the gallery, they are invited to come inside - as the fun doesn't stop there.

The three-storey contemporary art gallery has created interactive art. Visitors can learn about mischievous artists who have made history, get stuck into our art activities and create their own masterpieces, chill out in our video corner or get a selfie with characters Shaun and Bitzer.

And for the grown ups… they can wander around the art-filled townhouse which houses work from renowned and emerging artists, shop in the book store or simply watch on while the little ones get creative.

They also have a competition running where flock-followers can design their own Shaun sculpture, the winner will see their design printed onto a mini Shaun the Sheep that will then be exhibited in the gallery - as well as a bag of art goodies!

Gallery Manager, Chris Morgan, says:

"This Summer we’ve made it our mission to help young budding artists discover the fun and mischief of art. We are thrilled to be supporting St Oswald’s Hospice this year in the incredible work they do. The Shaun the Sheep art trail is a perfect opportunity to highlight to children how exciting art can be.”

The Shaun on the Tyne art trail launched on 19th July and activities at Hancock Gallery will run until the trail finishes on 23rd September. They are open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am until 5pm.
