Gallagher & Turner Announce Summer Open Exhibition for 2024

Newcastle gallery Gallagher & Turner are hosting their fourth Summer Open Submission Exhibition, 13th July – 10th August 2024, featuring 57 artists and 71 artworks.

The Gallagher & Turner Summer Open is a rare opportunity to see and celebrate such a spread of diverse local talent, selected from 186 entries, and featuring artists and makers from Alnwick to York. This year’s exhibition will include established artists such as Alfons Bytautas, Paul Merrick and Jennifer Douglas, alongside recent graduates such as Northumbria University’s Jasmine Nattrass.

Previous Open Exhibitions have been a great way for the gallery to meet new artists and have forged ongoing relationships, as with artist and illustrator Deborah Snell and textile artists Rhiannon Robinson.

Clare Turner, who founded the gallery in 1990 with Paul Gallagher, explains their selection:

"We hosted our first Open Exhibition in 2019 and this will be our fourth. We are looking for quality work that makes us smile and brings us joy. We are excited to bring all these artworks together and celebrate the North East’s talented artists and creators."

You can expect to see painting, sculpture, drawing, collage, print, ceramics, and textiles, along with subject matter ranging from the North Easts’ shipyard industries, to landscapes, seascapes, portraits and abstract works.
