First Look: Malmaison Newcastle Reveals Ongoing £3 Million Transformation Ahead of October 2025 Completion

Malmaison Newcastle has revealed an exclusive first look at the £3 million refurbishment of its iconic Quayside hotel.

The design overhaul will see the transformation of all 122 bedrooms and suites, thoughtfully integrating Newcastle’s industrial heritage to celebrate the city’s character.

The new design concept will reflect Malmaison’s striking signature style, with each room featuring bespoke local artwork. The corridors will showcase a custom-designed carpet that pays homage to the hotel’s Quayside setting with bridge silhouettes and a magpie feather motif.

Striking a balance between the city’s famous grit and glamour, the interiors will be rich and layered, with bold colours and a few unexpected details that make the spaces feel alive.

Newly appointed Cluster General Manager for Malmaison and Hotel du Vin Newcastle, Chris Lyall, said it’s a major moment for the brand and city. “We’re thrilled to offer a first glimpse at what’s to come as we continue to invest in the hotel. Newcastle has such a strong identity, and with this project, we really wanted to create something that feels true to the city but also unmistakably Malmaison.”

The transformation will unfold in stages over the coming months, and whilst works are still in progress, the early results are already generating incredible feedback from guests and locals alike," adds Chris.

Initially announced as a £2 million project, the additional investment reflects the brand’s commitment to delivering a more ambitious, design-led transformation than originally planned, with completion set for later in 2025.

Each phase of the project has been carefully planned to minimise disruption to guests, ensuring the hotel remains fully operational throughout the refurbishment period. For more information on Malmaison, please visit: malmaison.com
