FEDS Chicken Shop Steps Up to Grey Street, Marking a New Chapter for Newcastle Success Story

What started as a small fried chicken concept in the heart of Grainger Market during the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic has grown into one of the city’s most exciting independent food brands. Now, FEDS Chicken Shop is entering its next chapter, moving into a new home at 28 Grey Street, creating jobs and investing in one of Newcastle’s most famous streets.

Opening to the public on Friday 27th March from 12pm, the new site represents a major milestone for the business — a step up in scale, ambition, and presence, while staying true to the roots that built its loyal following.

FEDS was born at a time when the hospitality industry faced unprecedented challenges. Launching inside Grainger Market, the brand quickly built momentum through word of mouth, quality-driven food, and a bold, unpretentious approach to fried chicken. Backed by the team behind Meat Stack, FEDS has steadily evolved into a standout name in Newcastle’s food scene — not a new arrival, but a brand that has earned its place.

The new Grey Street restaurant reflects that evolution. The space leans into a 90s-inspired aesthetic, blending nostalgic design with a raw, alternative edge. Expect references to skate culture, underground scenes, and 90s alternative music, creating an environment that feels energetic, slightly rebellious, and unmistakably FEDS — a place as much about atmosphere as it is about the food.

To celebrate the move, FEDS is inviting the city to be part of its next chapter with a launch day that reflects its generous, community-driven spirit:

· 50% off all food between 12pm and 3pm

· Walk-ins only — no bookings required

The new Grey Street location will serve the same flavour-packed fried chicken that built its reputation, alongside a drinks offering that includes Donzoko Beers, house cocktails, and the brand’s signature Hard Orange Soda.

Allan from FEDS said: “FEDS has always been about more than just fried chicken. Starting in Grainger Market during COVID forced us to focus on what really matters — quality, consistency, and creating something people genuinely connect with. Moving to Grey Street feels like a coming-of-age moment for the brand. It’s still the same FEDS, just grown up a bit.”

The move marks a significant moment not just for the business, but for Newcastle’s independent food scene — a reminder of how resilience, creativity, and community support can turn a market stall into a destination.
